The Work - Software Engineer Sr
Provide technical leadership and contribute to the full software lifecycle for secure embedded-processing solutions, guiding a multidisciplinary team of software and FPGA/firmware engineers from concept through delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead/co-ordinate a cross-disciplinary team to plan, integrate, and deliver embedded processing capabilities.
- Own the full software lifecycle: requirements, design, implementation, integration, verification, and sustainment.
- Develop and maintain C++ code for secure embedded applications.
- Write low-level software that interfaces with hardware, FPGA/firmware, and protocols (PCIe, SPI, IC).
- Support hardware/software integration, system bring-up, and lab debugging.
- Manage technical dependencies between Software and FPGA/Firmware teams.
- Produce estimates, schedules, milestones, and work products; track and report engineering metrics.
- Communicate status, risks, and recovery plans to leadership and customers.
- Apply Earned Value Management (EVM) and Cost Account Management (CAM) for program forecasting.
- Identify & mitigate technical, schedule, resource, and integration risks.
- Maintain/expand CI/CD pipelines for secure software delivery.
- Collaborate with systems, hardware, test, cyber, and program-management teams to deliver prototypes and production-ready systems.
- Ensure solutions meet security, reliability, performance, quality, and program requirements.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to process improvements.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) field from an accredited institution with 5 years of professional experience, or Master's degree in a related field with 3 years of professional experience.
- Proficiency in C++.
- Experience developing embedded systems-level software, including low-level or hardware-near applications.
- Experience with embedded Linux development and system bring-up.
- Experience working with hardware communication protocols such as PCIe, SPI, and I2C.
- Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating technical activities across a cross-functional engineering team.
- Active DoD Secret security clearance with the ability to maintain the clearance.
- Willingness to work in a classified environment.
Desired Skills
- Experience leading multidisciplinary development teams spanning Software and FPGA/Firmware.
- Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) and/or Cost Account Management (CAM).
- Experience developing and tracking engineering estimates, schedules, milestones, and technical performance metrics.
- Experience gathering and reporting metrics for Agile stories, work packages, milestones, and program deliverables.

- Experience with software development in Bare-Metal C/C++ for low-level or hardware-near applications.

- Experience presenting technical status and program metrics to customers and senior leadership.
