Job Description
Piper Companies is seeking a Systems Engineer to support the development of complex pharmacy automation systems within the healthcare technology industry for a 6 month contract to hire opportunity onsite in Durham, NC. The ideal Systems Engineer will focus on requirements development, system architecture, and cross-functional collaboration for large-scale electromechanical products who can bridge the gap between business needs and engineering execution while supporting the early phases of product development.

Responsibilities of the Systems Engineer:
- Translate customer, business, and marketing needs into system requirements and design inputs.
- Define and decompose system requirements into subsystem requirements.
- Develop and influence system architecture for complex automation platforms.
- Collaborate with software, firmware, hardware, electrical, and mechanical engineering teams.
- Serve as a liaison between product, marketing, regulatory, and engineering teams.
- Support design tradeoff analysis and technical decision-making.
- Ensure requirements are testable and support verification and validation activities.
- Translate regulatory and compliance requirements into product requirements.
- Support product development throughout the full lifecycle.
Qualifications of the Systems Engineer:
- 8+ years of Systems Engineering experience supporting complex electromechanical products, robotics, automation systems, or integrated hardware/software solutions.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States and obtain and maintain an Active U.S. Government Secret Clearance.
- Strong experience with requirements gathering, requirements decomposition, and system architecture development.
- Experience working across software, firmware, hardware, electrical, and mechanical engineering disciplines.
- Knowledge of Systems Engineering methodologies and V-Model development processes.
- Experience with verification, validation, and requirements traceability.
- Experience in regulated industries or medical device development is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science.
Compensation for the Systems Engineer includes:
- Salary range: $70-$90/hr depending on experience
- Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and PTO.
