Job Description

Description

SRC is seeking a Cyber Missions Systems Integrator to support incorporated space mission systems in Huntsville, Alabama. The integrator will help define, assimilate, and sustain mission-focused system architectures across space operational environments, including ground segments, mission networks, data exchanges, and supporting enterprise services.

This position is primarily focused on ensuring space mission systems are resilient, interoperable, available, and effective in mission-essential operational environments. Cybersecurity is a core secondary focus and will be utilized throughout the system lifecycle to protect mission capabilities without introducing unacceptable latency, operational constraints, or single points of failure.

The Cyber Missions Systems Integrator will work with systems engineers, mission users, software and infrastructure teams, cybersecurity personnel, subcontractors, and program leadership to translate operational needs into integrated technical solutions. The role will support systems that include custom-developed, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS), government off-the-shelf (GOTS), and third-party vendor components.

Responsibilities

Space Mission Systems Engineering
  • Supporting the development, integration, and sustainment of space mission system architectures across ground, network, data, and operational mission environments
  • Translating space operational needs into system requirements, functional designs, interfaces, and technical road maps
  • Supporting mission-system synthesis across satellite control networks, space mission ground segments, orbital tracking systems, command-and-control environments, and supporting enterprise architectures
  • Developing and maintaining system-level engineering artifacts, including mission threads, interface requirements, architecture views, use cases, and technical baselines
  • Coordinating system-to-system interface requirements and Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for mission data exchanges, services, and operational workflows
  • Assessing system performance, resiliency, availability, interoperability, and failure modes to identify capability gaps and modernization priorities
  • Collaborating with engineering and operations teams to ensure system designs support real-time, low-latency, and mission-essential operational requirements
  • Participating in technical reviews, architecture review boards, integration events, and vendor/subcontractor reviews
  • Supporting the application of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), digital engineering tools, and systems engineering best practices where appropriate

Cybersecurity Engineering and Integration
  • Integrating cybersecurity requirements and controls into space mission system designs, engineering baselines, and lifecycle activities
  • Collaborating with cybersecurity architects and engineers to apply security architecture principles across networks, applications, data, identity, endpoints, and system interfaces
  • Supporting implementation of Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA), including segmentation, identity verification, least-privilege access, and protection of mission data flows
  • Conducting or supporting security architecture assessments to identify vulnerabilities, trust-boundary gaps, and cybersecurity risks affecting mission operations
  • Reviewing vendor and subcontractor technical deliverables for alignment with system engineering requirements and enterprise cybersecurity standards
  • Ensuring cybersecurity controls are engineered to preserve mission availability, operational performance, and resiliency
  • Supporting compliance activities associated with Risk Management Framework (RMF), NIST 800-53, Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP), Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA), and other applicable federal cybersecurity governance frameworks

Leadership and Communication
  • Serving as a technical advisor to program leadership, mission stakeholders, systems engineering teams, and cybersecurity personnel
  • Representing the mission systems integrator function in customer meetings, executive briefings, technical interchange meetings, and cross-functional planning sessions
  • Driving coordination among software engineering, infrastructure, data architecture, cybersecurity, systems integration, and operations teams
  • Mentoring engineers and technical staff on mission systems, integration, resiliency, and cyber-informed engineering practices
  • Communicating technical risks, trade-offs, dependencies, and recommendations clearly to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders

Requirements

  • 10-15+ years of experience in systems engineering, mission systems integration, space operations, aerospace systems, defense command-and-control systems, or related large-scale government or defense programs
  • Demonstrated experience supporting space mission environments, such as satellite control networks, space mission ground segments, orbital mechanics or tracking systems, space command-and-control systems, or U.S. Space Force/U.S. Space Command enterprise architectures
  • Demonstrated experience developing or integrating complex, multi-vendor, multi-technology systems across organizational and technical trust boundaries
  • Experience with systems engineering lifecycle processes, requirements development, architecture analysis, interface management, integration, test, and operational sustainment
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity engineering principles, including network security, identity and access management (IAM), data protection, Zero Trust concepts, and security architecture
  • Familiarity with RMF, NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, FISMA, and federal cybersecurity governance frameworks
  • Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, aerospace engineering, computer science, cybersecurity, information systems, computer engineering, or a related field; or four additional years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree
  • Ability to lead technical discussions and build alignment across engineering, cybersecurity, operations, subcontractor, and program leadership teams

Desired Skills

  • Direct experience with space-based mission systems, satellite ground stations, aerospace data networks, or related operational mission environments
  • Experience with defense command-and-control, C4I, aviation, Federal Aviation Administration, or national airspace systems
  • Experience with real-time systems, low-latency architectures, edge computing, and high-availability mission environments
  • Experience with MBSE, digital engineering, systems architecture frameworks, or mission-thread analysis
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps, automated threat detection, container security, and secure software delivery practices
  • Experience with network architecture and security technologies, including software-defined wide area networking (SD-WAN) and micro-segmentation
  • Relevant technical or cybersecurity certifications, such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Information Systems Security Architecture Professional (ISSAP), or Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP)
  • Knowledge of Executive Order 14028, Office of Management and Budget Zero Trust guidance, and identity-management requirements
