General Experience: One year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of a Front Desk Receptionist Clerk, such as preparing letters, schedules and other documents through the use of a personal computer, or assisting patients utilizing medical database systems.
OR
Education: Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages.
AND
TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-03).

- Provides facility navigation, departmental guidance, and registration instructions
- Collaborates with referral personnel or office leadership to facilitate timely care.
- Communicates clinic instructions and appointment procedures to diverse populations.
- Maintains daily and monthly master appointment registers for clinical providers; monitors available, unavailable, and reserved scheduling slots.
- Inspects office machinery and shared work spaces; submits timely reports for equipment maintenance, safety hazards, and physical supply shortages.
- Organizes electronic and paper administrative records; applies office filing policies to safeguard sensitive personal information and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Enters patient registration and eligibility updates into automated medical database systems; verifies third-party insurance and institutional coverage records.
- Operates office automation software suites; generates routine administrative reports, professional correspondence, and electronic messages.
- Modifies provider database appointment templates; structures electronic schedules according to specific clinic booking rules and provider directives.
- Transmits clear and accurate logistical information to patients and families; explains facility services, diagnostic locations, and check-in requirements over the telephone or in person.
- Relays critical scheduling discrepancies or urgent clinical consults to departmental leadership; ensures immediate coordination between administrative and medical staff.
- Directs telephone calls and messages to appropriate clinical or administrative sections; gathers pertinent caller details to facilitate proper referral.
