Specialist Mechanical Engineering (Level 3)
- Anaheim, CA (Temp, 9/80 Schedule) About the Role Join a mission-driven engineering team powering the future of defense technology as a Specialist Mechanical Engineer (Level 3) based in Anaheim, CA. This contract position offers you hands-on involvement with advanced mechanical and electromechanical components for Navy high-power environments. Responsibilities
- Execute mechanical design and 3D CAD modeling of components using industry-leading platforms
- Create, review, and maintain detailed engineering documentation, mechanical drawings, and specifications compliant with ASME Y14 standards
- Perform tolerance analyses and support manufacturability improvements during production, ensuring cost-effective assembly and hardware builds
- Troubleshoot and resolve assembly and build issues on the production floor
- Actively participate in design reviews, offering guidance to junior engineers and constructive peer feedback
- Collaborate closely with Production, Manufacturing, Systems & Test, Electrical, Software, and Project Engineering teams to meet mission-critical requirements
- Engage in hands-on work with high-power mechanical hardware for Navy/military applications
- Travel up to 15% as needed to support projects at various locations
- Maintain eligibility for a U.S. Secret security clearance Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 4+ years of relevant experience, or Graduate degree with 2+ years of experience, or 8+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree
- Proficient in major 3D CAD software such as Inventor, SolidWorks, NX, Creo, or CATIA
- Skilled in generating and controlling engineering documentation (drawings, specifications, ECRs/ECOs)
- Demonstrated expertise with ASME Y14 standards (GD&T, drawing practices, tolerancing)
- Self-starter who thrives in a cross-functional team environment and can work independently
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and supporting technical design reviews
- Able to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret clearance Preferred Skills
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor
- Familiarity with Navy/military specifications
- Background in high-power or high-voltage electromechanical systems
- Hands-on experience with qualification and functional testing for defense systems
- Proficiency in PLM systems (Oracle Agile, Siemens Teamcenter)
- Material and finish selection expertise for ruggedized/military systems
- Structural FEA (Ansys) and thermal analysis proficiency
- Exposure to 3D printing/additive manufacturing technologies Benefits
