Cyber Range Engineer, JTF

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cyber Range Engineer to join our team at By Light, supporting the Joint Task Force (JTF) mission. This role is critical to the design, development, and maintenance of advanced cyber ranges used for training and testing of cyber defense capabilities.

Responsibilities:

• Design and implement complex cyber range environments that simulate real-world attack and defense scenarios.
• Develop and maintain virtual machines, networks, and other infrastructure components within the cyber range.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity analysts, developers, and other team members to ensure the range supports training objectives.
• Conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing within the range to identify and remediate security weaknesses.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting for range users and administrators.
• Stay current with emerging cyber threats and defensive technologies to enhance the range’s capabilities.
• Document range configurations, test results, and other relevant information for future reference and improvements.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity, with a focus on cyber range development and operations.
• Proven experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and network infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of operating systems (Windows, Linux) and networking concepts.
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) and automation tools.
• Knowledge of common cyber threats, vulnerabilities, and defensive strategies.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Clear communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team setting.

Clearance Requirements:
This position requires an active Top Secret/SCI clearance with a Full Scope Polygraph.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with government agencies or defense contractors.
• Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Certifications such as CISSP, CEH, or OSCP.
