Mail/Currency Destruction Specialists will support mail screening and currency destruction operations at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing's Western Currency Facility. Responsibilities include screening incoming mail and parcels or processing unfit currency for destruction in accordance with BEP procedures. The function is staffed by two employees, with each assigned to one task at a time. This role involves physical material handling at a federal facility and does not include badge issuance or guard post duties.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Receive, log, and screen incoming mail and parcels using BEP screening equipment and procedures.
  • Move screened items by conveyor, gondola, or hand cart as directed.
  • Prepare and feed unfit currency and related material into the destruction process.
  • Account for material in and material destroyed. Keep daily counts and logs accurate.
  • Wear required PPE, including steel-toe footwear and hearing protection, in the destruction area.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds to a height of four feet, repeatedly.
  • Follow chain-of-custody and accountability rules for currency and mail.
  • Report equipment issues, discrepancies, and safety concerns to the site lead immediately.
  • Cross-train on the paired task so either mail screening or destruction can be covered.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
  • Able to work on-site at Blue Mound Road for the posted shift, including occasional overtime.
  • Able to meet the 50-pound lift and stand for most of the shift.
  • Reliable attendance and the ability to follow a written procedure exactly.
  • Ability to keep simple logs and counts without errors.


Minimum/General Experience:
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a favorable T4 High Risk Public Trust.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Warehouse, mail-room, shipping/receiving, or material-handling experience.
  • Federal site, industrial, or currency/cash-handling experience.
  • Prior public-trust or suitability investigation.


Minimum Education:
  • HS Diploma, or equivalent
