AV/VTC Technician
Full Time | Secret Clearance Required
Locations: Quantico, VA / Camp Lejeune, NC / Camp Pendleton, CA / Twentynine Palms, CA / Hawaii / Okinawa, Japan
SteelGate is seeking an experienced Audio Visual/Video Teleconferencing (AV/VTC) Technician to provide installation, operation, maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, and user support for AV and VTC systems supporting the U.S. Government.
The AV/VTC Technician will support conference rooms, classrooms, meeting spaces, auditoriums, and other facilities requiring reliable audiovisual and collaborative communications capabilities. The technician will perform system functionality and operational checks, respond to AV/VTC service requests, troubleshoot equipment and connectivity problems, support scheduled events, and assist users with the proper operation of AV/VTC equipment.
Key Responsibilities
• Configure, operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot AV/VTC equipment and systems.
• Perform scheduled functionality and operational checks to ensure AV/VTC equipment is mission ready.
• Provide technical support for video conferences, meetings, presentations, classroom instruction, command events, and other scheduled activities.
• Set up and operate AV/VTC equipment before scheduled events and verify proper audio, video, display, camera, microphone, and conferencing functionality.
• Troubleshoot hardware, software, connectivity, audio, video, display, and peripheral issues affecting AV/VTC services.
• Diagnose and resolve routine and complex AV/VTC technical problems and escalate network-, systems-, or cybersecurity-related problems to the appropriate engineering team.
• Support conference-room and classroom technologies, including displays, projectors, cameras, microphones, speakers, control systems, and associated peripheral devices.
• Assist users with establishing and operating video teleconferences and audiovisual presentations.
• Provide users with instructions and technical assistance for proper operation of AV/VTC systems.
• Support scheduling and coordination of VTC sessions and other events requiring AV technical support.
• Respond to AV/VTC service requests and trouble tickets and document troubleshooting actions and resolution.
• Coordinate with the IT Service Desk, Systems Administrators, and Network Engineers to resolve incidents involving network connectivity or supporting IT infrastructure.
• Install, move, connect, disconnect, and configure AV/VTC equipment as required.
• Support testing and validation of newly installed, relocated, repaired, or upgraded AV/VTC equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance and identify failing, degraded, obsolete, or End-of-Life equipment.
• Assist with equipment replacement, modernization, technology refresh, and lifecycle-management activities.
• Maintain accurate AV/VTC equipment and configuration information.
• Assist with inventory and accountability of AV/VTC equipment and associated components.
• Maintain applicable technical documentation, operating procedures, user instructions, troubleshooting guides, and equipment records.
• Coordinate vendor or manufacturer technical support when equipment problems require external assistance.
• Provide technical support for complex audiovisual requirements and high-visibility events.
Minimum Experience:
• Must have 3–5+ years of professional AV/VTC, audiovisual, unified communications, or related technical support experience.
• Must have an active DoD Secret security clearance.
• Must meet applicable DoD 8140/DCWF requirements for Work Role 441 at the Advanced proficiency level.
• Demonstrated experience installing, configuring, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting AV/VTC equipment.
• Experience supporting conference rooms, classrooms, meeting spaces, auditoriums, or similar enterprise audiovisual environments.
• Experience troubleshooting audio, video, displays, cameras, microphones, speakers, cabling, and peripheral equipment.
• Experience supporting video conferencing and collaboration technologies.
• Experience providing real-time technical support during meetings, conferences, presentations, or high-visibility events.
• Experience performing preventive maintenance and operational checks on AV/VTC systems.
• Experience installing, relocating, connecting, and testing AV/VTC equipment.
• Ability to diagnose AV problems and determine when an issue originates with AV equipment, network connectivity, computing infrastructure, or another supporting technology.
• Experience using an IT service-management or trouble-ticketing system.
• Ability to maintain accurate equipment, maintenance, incident, and configuration documentation.
• Strong customer-service and interpersonal skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while coordinating with geographically dispersed teams.
• Ability to provide occasional after-hours or weekend support based on mission requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Associate's or bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Electronics, Telecommunications, Audiovisual Technology, or related discipline.
• CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+ certification.
• Experience with Crestron, Extron, AMX, Biamp, QSC, or comparable professional AV technologies.
• Experience supporting AV/VTC systems in DoD, Federal Government, or military environments.
• Experience with enterprise VTC and collaboration platforms.
• Experience with Cisco/Webex video conferencing technologies.
• Experience with Microsoft Teams Rooms or similar collaboration-room technologies.
• Experience troubleshooting audiovisual control systems.
• Experience with digital signal processors (DSPs), amplifiers, microphones, cameras, projectors, commercial displays, and audio systems.
• Experience with HDMI, DisplayPort, USB, network-based AV, and other common AV interfaces.
• Familiarity with AV-over-IP technologies.
• Familiarity with TCP/IP networking and the network requirements associated with VTC systems.
• Experience with ServiceNow or comparable ITSM/ticketing platforms.
• AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) certification or comparable professional AV certification.
• Previous USMC, Navy, DISA, or other DoD enterprise networking experience.
