GENERAL JOB SUMMARY :

The Electrical Engineer provides engineering - level design, analysis, testing, and technical support for the E lectrical L aboratory and the broader facility (IPIF) . This role develops and reviews electrical designs, oversees test planning and execution, supports prototype development, and ensures technical rigor across engineering and mission activities. Working under the direction of the E ngineering Sr. Manager and collaborating closely with multi - disciplinary engineering teams, the engineer provides both hands - on and analytical support for cables, harnesses, PCBs, electrical subsystems, instrumentation, and facility electrical needs. This position requires strong engineering fundamentals, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt quickly in a dynamic mission - driven environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

PRIMARY:

  • Develop, review, and update electrical designs, schematics, wiring diagrams, and test documentation for lab and facility systems.


  • Provide engineering oversight for cable and harness builds, PCB development, and prototype electrical assemblies.


  • Plan, execute, and document component , and system - level electrical tests using oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, data acquisition systems, and specialized test equipment.


  • Perform engineering analysis to support troubleshooting of electrical performance issues, failure investigations, and system - level anomalies.


  • Review build records, test data, and configuration changes for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with engineering requirements.


  • Develop or improve test procedures, quality criteria, and engineering workflows for the electrical lab.


  • Ensure adherence to safety practices, ESD controls, and engineering standards.


SECONDARY:

  • Support development of automated test setups, custom fixtures, and instrumentation solutions.


  • Assist in requirements definition, design reviews, and risk assessments for electrical subsystems and facility electrical projects.


  • Provide technical guidance to technicians and mission teams on electrical design, assembly, and testing best practices.


  • Contribute to process improvements related to electrical design quality, test efficiency, and workflow optimization.


  • Coordinate with engineering, mission providers, and facility leadership to ensure electrical needs are met across ongoing projects.


  • Evaluate new equipment, tools, and technologies for possible integration into the electrical lab or facility.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY :

May provide technical guidance to technicians and junior personnel.

Experience and Skills

JOB SKILLS:

Required:

  • Strong proficiency in electrical engineering fundamentals, including circuit analysis, power systems, instrumentation, and signal integrity.


  • Ability to create, interpret, and review schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering documentation.


  • Experience planning and conducting electrical tests, analyzing data, and generating technical reports.


  • Familiarity with standard lab equipment and hands - on testing techniques.


  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering, lab, and mission teams.


  • Proficiency with engineering and documentation tools such as Microsoft Office, schematic capture software, and data analysis tools.


  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET clearance .


Preferred:

  • Experience supporting DoD programs, mission activities, or R&D environments.


  • Working knowledge of IPC, MIL - STD, or aerospace/defense electrical standards.


  • Experience with PCB design tools, automated test systems, or instrumentation development.


  • Background in electrical reliability, failure analysis, or test methodology development.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering , Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline; Master's degree preferred.


  • 3+ years of relevant engineering experience in electrical design, testing, prototyping, or laboratory support (or equivalent combination of education and hands - on industry/military experience).


Travel

  • Up to 10%


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position operates in both an engineering office environment and a hands - on electrical lab. Work includes design review, analysis, planning, and documentation as well as bench - level testing, prototype development, and interaction with mission and experiment providers. The role requires adherence to safety and ESD protocols and the ability to support fluctuating project demands in a fast - paced, mission - oriented facility.
