Job Description
Our team in Pensacola, FL, has an immediate need for a Senior Windows Systems Administrator with demonstrated expertise in enterprise Windows Server administration, Internet Information Services (IIS), Microsoft SQL Server, and enterprise Network Monitoring Services (NMS).
This position provides hands-on administration, engineering, troubleshooting, and sustainment of mission-essential infrastructure supporting MSC's global shore facilities and tactical maritime networks. The Senior Windows Systems Administrator is responsible for maintaining the availability, security, performance, and observability of enterprise servers, web applications, databases, and network monitoring systems.
The ideal candidate will have strong technical depth across Windows Server, IIS, SQL Server, SolarWinds, PowerShell, and cybersecurity compliance, with the ability to independently troubleshoot complex infrastructure and application issues in a mission-critical environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Windows Server Administration & Infrastructure
- Provide hands-on administration, engineering, configuration, and maintenance of enterprise Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022 environments.
- Manage server deployments, upgrades, patching, performance tuning, backups, and system lifecycle activities.
- Troubleshoot complex operating system, application, authentication, networking, and performance issues.
- Monitor system health, capacity, availability, and resource utilization.
- Implement configuration changes and maintain system documentation in accordance with established procedures.
- Support enterprise services, applications, and infrastructure across geographically dispersed shore and maritime environments.
IIS Web Server Administration
- Design, deploy, configure, secure, and sustain Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) environments supporting mission-critical web applications.
- Configure and maintain application pools, worker processes, websites, virtual directories, authentication methods, and application settings.
- Configure and maintain SSL/TLS bindings, certificates, Application Request Routing (ARR), and Web Application Proxy (WAP).
- Perform certificate installation, renewal, and troubleshooting.
- Diagnose and resolve complex web application issues, including HTTP 4xx/5xx errors, authentication failures, connectivity issues, application pool failures, and memory/resource utilization problems.
- Analyze IIS logs and application behavior to identify root causes and improve application availability and performance.
Microsoft SQL Server Administration
- Install, configure, patch, secure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server 2016, 2019, and 2022 environments.
- Administer standalone and clustered SQL Server instances supporting enterprise applications.
- Design, implement, maintain, and validate High Availability/Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) solutions.
- Develop and maintain automated database backup, restore, and recovery procedures.
- Monitor database performance, capacity, availability, and resource utilization.
- Perform database integrity checks, maintenance plans, index rebuilds/reorganizations, and statistics updates.
- Analyze query execution plans and resolve blocking, deadlocks, inefficient queries, and other database performance issues.
- Optimize database queries, storage allocation, and configuration to maintain operational performance and reliability.
Network Monitoring Service / SolarWinds Administration
- Administer, configure, maintain, and optimize the enterprise Network Monitoring Service (NMS) platform, currently SolarWinds.
- Configure and maintain agent-based and agentless monitoring and polling infrastructure.
- Configure SNMP, WMI, API, and other monitoring protocols for servers, network devices, applications, and infrastructure components.
- Establish monitoring thresholds, alerts, notifications, and escalation criteria.
- Develop and maintain custom dashboards, maps, customer views, and executive-level reporting.
- Monitor the health and performance of Windows servers, network devices, IIS applications, SQL databases, and other mission-critical systems.
- Analyze monitoring data to identify trends, performance issues, capacity concerns, and potential service disruptions.
- Continuously improve monitoring coverage, alert accuracy, system visibility, and operational awareness.
Cybersecurity, STIG & Compliance
- Implement and maintain DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) across Windows Server, IIS, SQL Server, SolarWinds, and associated application environments.
- Support system hardening, vulnerability remediation, configuration management, and security compliance activities.
- Coordinate with cybersecurity personnel to investigate and remediate ACAS vulnerability scan findings.
- Support Risk Management Framework (RMF) requirements and activities necessary to maintain system authorization and accreditation.
- Maintain secure configurations and ensure systems remain compliant with applicable DoD cybersecurity requirements.
- Identify potential security weaknesses and implement corrective actions in coordination with appropriate stakeholders.
Automation & Scripting
- Develop and maintain PowerShell and T-SQL scripts to automate administrative and operational tasks.
- Automate system configuration, monitoring, reporting, maintenance, log analysis, and scheduled activities.
- Develop custom scripts and tools to improve operational efficiency and reduce repetitive administrative tasks.
- Troubleshoot and modify existing automation scripts as required.
Technical Support & Operations
- Provide advanced technical support for enterprise infrastructure, applications, and database services.
- Serve as a senior technical resource for troubleshooting complex or recurring infrastructure issues.
- Participate in incident response, problem management, system recovery, and root-cause analysis.
- Coordinate with network, cybersecurity, application, database, and systems engineering teams to resolve cross-functional issues.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, system configurations, operational procedures, and troubleshooting records.
- Support planned maintenance, system upgrades, deployments, and infrastructure modernization efforts.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of mission requirements.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience administering enterprise Windows Server environments.
- Demonstrated expertise with Windows Server 2016/2019/2022.
- Advanced experience administering Microsoft IIS in an enterprise environment.
- Advanced experience administering and troubleshooting Microsoft SQL Server 2016/2019/2022.
- Experience administering enterprise network monitoring platforms, preferably SolarWinds.
- Strong proficiency with PowerShell and T-SQL.
- Experience with server hardening, vulnerability remediation, and DISA STIG compliance.
- Experience troubleshooting complex Windows, IIS, SQL Server, networking, authentication, and application issues.
- Experience supporting geographically distributed enterprise environments.
- Ability to analyze system and application logs, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
- Strong technical documentation, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple technical priorities in a mission-critical environment.
- Active Secret security clearance required and must be maintained.
Certification Requirements
Must meet applicable DoD 8570.01-M / DoD 8140 baseline requirements for IAT Level II, including:
- CompTIA Security+ CE, or
- An equivalent DoD-approved cybersecurity certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience supporting Department of Defense or U.S. Navy enterprise systems.
- Experience with RMF, ACAS, STIG, and DoD cybersecurity compliance requirements.
- Experience with SQL Server clustering, high availability, and disaster recovery architectures.
- Experience with SolarWinds Orion and related modules.
- Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, IIS, Exchange, and enterprise authentication services.
- Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
- Experience supporting NIPRNET, SIPRNET, or other DoD network environments.
- Prior military systems administration, network operations, database administration, or enterprise infrastructure experience is highly desirable.
Work Environment
This is an on-site position in Pensacola, Florida. The selected candidate is expected to report to the office Monday through Friday and may be required to support scheduled maintenance, system outages, or other mission requirements outside normal business hours.
The anticipated salary range for this role is $115,000 to $120,000 annually. The anticipated salary range for this position is provided in accordance with applicable pay transparency laws. The final starting salary will be determined based on a variety of job-related factors, including the selected candidate's qualifications, skills, relevant experience, education, certifications, and work location (where applicable), as well as internal equity and market considerations.
