Role description:
Designs, implements, and maintains complex cloud database environments with a primary focus on PostgreSQL across Azure and GCP. Responsible for database availability, disaster recovery, security, automation, observability, performance optimization, and supporting migrations from SQL Server to cloud PostgreSQL environments.
Required experience:
5+ years of DBA experience, with 4+ years specifically focused on cloud databases in production.
Hands-on experience provisioning and operating managed PostgreSQL environments in Azure and GCP, or experience in one platform with the ability to ramp quickly on the other.
Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, including MVCC, vacuum/autovacuum, indexing strategies, query planning/EXPLAIN, streaming/logical replication, and partitioning.
Experience implementing HA/DR architecture, including replication, failover, backup/restore, point-in-time recovery, and multi-region strategies.
Proven automation experience using Infrastructure-as-Code, preferably Terraform, and Python and/or Bash scripting.
Experience using CI/CD pipelines for database changes.
Experience building or operating database observability and monitoring solutions, including metrics, logging, alerting, dashboards, and anomaly detection.
Experience applying AI/ML-based tools for anomaly detection or automated remediation.
Experience performing query and schema performance tuning for cloud database workloads.
Experience migrating workloads or teams from SQL Server or another RDBMS to PostgreSQL.
Strong knowledge of cloud security fundamentals, including IAM, private networking, encryption at rest/in transit, and secrets management.
