Job Description

Description

Empower AI is seeking a Cable / Infrastructure Analyst Technician to design, install, test, and document structured cabling and physical communications infrastructure for a Department of War agency at its headquarters campus and regional sites across NIPRNet, SIPRNet, and JWICS enclaves. The technician analyzes cabling requirements for moves, adds, changes, installations, and site expansions; determines pathways, media, termination, labeling, and separation requirements for classified and unclassified infrastructure; performs and certifies copper and fiber installations; maintains telecommunications rooms, patch panels, and as-built documentation; and supports VoIP, VTC, and network equipment installations under the direction of communications engineers. The role builds a strong foundation in secure DoD communications infrastructure. You will independently analyze situations, determine the appropriate course of action, and exercise discretion and judgment in support of the program and its customers.

THIS IS AN ONSITE ROLE IN QUANTICO, VA (RKB) WITH UP TO 10% OF TRAVEL INVOLVED.

JOB DUTIES:
  • Analyze cabling and physical infrastructure requirements for moves, adds, changes, installations, and site expansions, and determine pathways, media (copper/fiber), termination, labeling, and enclave-separation requirements consistent with DoD and agency standards.
  • Perform and certify structured cabling installations (runs, terminations, patch panels, testing/certification, labeling) for VoIP, VTC, network, and end-user drops, and maintain telecommunications rooms and cable management.
  • Support site surveys by gathering measurements, pathway, power, and rack data and documenting findings, and support physical installation of VoIP, VTC, and network equipment under engineering direction.
  • Maintain as-built drawings, cable records, and telecommunications room documentation, and analyze recurring physical-layer faults to recommend infrastructure improvements.
  • Analyze escalated Tier II voice and video incidents (VoIP desk phones, softphone clients, VTC endpoints, conference room audio-visual) to determine root cause among power, connectivity, registration, configuration, and infrastructure factors, and decide whether to resolve locally or escalate to engineers with documented findings.
  • Determine the appropriate installation configuration for VoIP phones, VTC endpoints, and conference room equipment within engineering designs, and implement and test installations to verify service quality.
  • Evaluate cabling requirements for user moves, adds, changes, and small installations; determine routing, termination, and labeling approach; and perform and certify copper and fiber cabling work with as-built documentation.
  • Assess user requirements for voice and video moves, adds, and changes, determine the correct service configuration within approved standards, and implement and verify changes with the user.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree and 1 years of related experience (an Associate's degree with 2 years of related experience, or 4 years of related experience in lieu of a degree, may be substituted).
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must have an Active Top Secret Clearance (favorably adjudicated T5/T5R) to start; this is a Privileged User position.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain TS/SCI eligibility after start, if required by mission needs.
  • Must be within investigation scope and/or currently enrolled in Continuous Evaluation / Continuous Vetting.
  • Must possess and maintain a current DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level I baseline certification (e.g., CompTIA A+ CE, Network+ CE, Security+ CE, CCNA-Security, or SSCP) prior to performing cybersecurity-related duties.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, analyze problems, determine the appropriate course of action, and exercise discretion and independent judgment with limited day-to-day supervision.
  • Experience or demonstrated aptitude in telecommunications, structured cabling, audio-visual, or IT hardware installation.
  • Basic understanding of IP networking (TCP/IP, VLANs, PoE, DHCP) and how VoIP and VTC endpoints register and communicate.
  • Familiarity with hand tools, cable testers, and safe practices for working in telecommunications rooms, on ladders, and above ceilings.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds and to perform physical installation work.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills, and the ability to follow documented procedures precisely.
  • Ability to work a 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET core schedule, participate in an after-hours on-call rotation, and support weekend maintenance windows as required.

DESIRED SKILLS:
  • BICSI Installer or Technician certification; experience with classified (red/black) cabling separation and TEMPEST requirements.
  • CompTIA Network+ CE or Security+ CE, Cisco CCST/CCNA, or BICSI Installer certification.
  • Experience with Cisco Unified Communications (CUCM, Jabber) and Cisco or Poly VTC endpoints.
  • Experience working across multiple security enclaves (NIPRNet, SIPRNet, JWICS) and with classified system handling procedures.
  • Experience supporting Department of War (DoW), DoD, or other compliance-driven Federal communications environments.
  • Experience using ServiceNow (incident, request, knowledge, CMDB, Service Catalog, Virtual Agent) or a comparable enterprise ITSM platform.
