Job Description
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.
System Integration Project Engineers have a unique opportunity to work at the center of advanced unmanned aircraft system development and see new features and capabilities progress from concept through integration, system test, and the final operational system. Rather than focusing on a single component or phase of development, this role provides broad exposure across the air vehicle, software, ground control systems, datalinks, human-machine interfaces, and test environments to understand how the complete system comes together.
The System Integration Project Engineer works alongside software, systems, electrical, avionics, test, flight operations, and other engineering teams to support integration activities, investigate system behavior, and help resolve technical issues across system boundaries.
Under general supervision and with regular review, this position supports the planning, coordination, analysis, testing, and resolution of engineering problems of moderate scope and complexity. The position exercises independent judgment within assigned areas and provides an opportunity to develop a strong end-to-end understanding of complex aircraft systems and the engineering processes used to bring new capabilities into operation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The position exercises independent judgment within assigned areas and provides an opportunity to develop a strong end-to-end understanding of complex aircraft systems and the engineering processes used to bring new capabilities into operation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyzes, investigates, troubleshoots, and supports resolution of integration problems involving software, hardware, communications, interfaces, data flows, and system functionality.
- Supports software and system integration activities using laboratory, simulation, hardware-in-the-loop, system test, and other integration environments.
- Performs functional testing and troubleshooting using test procedures, diagnostic tools, system logs, network captures, message analyzers, test suites, and other available engineering data.
- Analyzes test results, system logs, network traffic, message exchanges, and interface data to characterize system behavior, isolate potential causes, and communicate findings to engineering teams.
- Coordinates assigned integration activities across disciplines, including software availability, hardware configurations, test assets, dependencies, documentation, and test readiness.
- Identifies and tracks engineering issues, risks, dependencies, and integration blockers and follows assigned actions through resolution.
- Maintains engineering and project information using tools such as Jira, Confluence, Jama, schedules, dashboards, and technical documentation.
- Uses modern engineering, automation, and approved AI-enabled tools where appropriate to improve technical analysis, information synthesis, documentation, and workflow efficiency.
- Typically requires a bachelors or masters degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and two or more years of engineering experience with a bachelors degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
- Must have hands-on engineering experience in one or more of the following areas: software development, software integration, system integration, system test, verification, or troubleshooting of integrated hardware/software systems.
- Must possess strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills and be able to correlate test results, logs, system data, network traffic, or other technical information to identify abnormal system behavior and potential causes.
- Must be able to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams and understand how software, hardware, interfaces, communications, and data flows contribute to overall system behavior.
- Experience developing, integrating, or testing software and an understanding of how software progresses through development, integration, and system test is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with Agile software development processes, including iterative development, backlog management, issue tracking, software releases, and defect resolution, is desirable.
- Basic understanding of computer networking concepts and common communication protocols, including TCP/IP, UDP, addressing, ports, and client/server or publish/subscribe communication models, is highly desirable.
- Experience with Wireshark, message analyzers, Linux/Red Hat environments, system logs, or similar diagnostic and troubleshooting tools is desirable.
- Previous experience with unmanned or manned aircraft systems, avionics, ground control systems, datalinks, or other complex integrated systems is desirable.
- Familiarity with UAS command-and-control concepts, human-machine interfaces, or STANAG 4586 is desirable.
- Experience with Jira, Confluence, Jama, or similar engineering collaboration and requirements management tools is desirable.
- Demonstrated interest or experience applying automation, scripting, or approved AI-enabled tools to improve engineering workflows and productivity is desirable.
- Must be able to travel occasionally to Flight Operations or other test locations to support system integration and testing activities.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance is required.
