ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/ PROFESSOR

Duties

• You will design, develop, and teach executive education addressing defense industrial capacity, industrial mobilization, defense economics, supply-chain resilience, industrial policy, technology integration, and related national security challenges.
• You will examine how industrial capacity, production, economic resources, technology, infrastructure, workforce, and supply networks generate and sustain defense capability and contribute to deterrence and military readiness.
• You will develop educational programs addressing how nations expand, mobilize, sustain, and replenish defense production during periods of increased demand, crisis, or conflict.
• You will examine opportunities and challenges for allied and partner cooperation in defense production, co-development, co-production, sustainment, technology cooperation, and supply-chain resilience.
• You will lead and support Center activities, including executive education courses, workshops, policy dialogues, senior-leader engagements, strategic visits, and international partnerships.
• You will serve as an action officer responsible for planning and executing courses, workshops, strategic dialogues, and regional engagements from concept development through execution and assessment.
• You will develop curriculum, instructional materials, case studies, simulations, and experiential-learning activities appropriate to diverse civilian and military audiences.
• You will teach and facilitate seminars and collaborative learning among security practitioners from throughout the Indo-Pacific.
• You will conduct research and publish scholarly and policy-relevant work on defense industrial capacity, industrial mobilization, defense economics, supply chains, industrial resilience, and related security issues.
• You will engage governments, defense organizations, industry, academic institutions, and other stakeholders to strengthen understanding of defense industrial and economic security challenges.
• You will develop and maintain substantive expertise necessary to support executive education, regional engagement, academic partnerships, public outreach, and strategic initiatives.
• You will mentor Fellows and contribute to their professional and intellectual development.
• You will contribute to the effective administration and institutional development of the College
• You will travel internationally in support of DKI APCSS programs and engagements.
• You will maintain productive, professional, respectful, and collegial relationships with leadership, faculty, staff, Fellows, and regional partners.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

• An advanced degree in economics, international relations, security studies, public policy, political science, business, industrial or technology policy, engineering, supply-chain management, or a related discipline. A doctorate or other terminal degree is preferred.
• Demonstrated substantive knowledge, research, or professional experience related to defense industrial capacity, industrial policy, defense economics, supply chains, industrial mobilization, technology policy, economic security, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct rigorous research, analyze contemporary security issues, and produce scholarly or policy-relevant work.
• Demonstrated ability to teach, facilitate, and mentor adult learners from diverse professional, national, and cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to communicate complex economic, industrial, technological, and security issues clearly to practitioner audiences.
• Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and execute complex projects or programs.
• Ability to work effectively as a collegial, collaborative, and team-oriented faculty member.
• Ability to use contemporary technologies and digital tools in research, teaching, collaboration, and program execution.
• Demonstrated commitment to the DKI APCSS mission and to advancing security cooperation and understanding throughout the Indo-Pacific.

Additional desired experience includes:

• Research, professional, government, military, industry, or field experience involving defense industrial, economic security, technology, acquisition, or supply-chain issues.
• Experience working with or studying defense ministries, economic or trade ministries, military organizations, defense industry, international organizations, policy institutions, or allied and partner governments.
• Experience examining defense-industrial cooperation among allies and partners or the role of private industry in national security.
• Experience in teaching, facilitation, executive education, strategic engagement, policy dialogue, exercises, or multinational workshops.
• Experience building professional networks and fostering collaboration among government, military, industry, academic, and other stakeholders.
• Knowledge of Indo-Pacific economic, industrial, technological, or defense-security dynamics.

Education

Basic Requirements:
Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter
field appropriate to the position
OR
Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, in a subject-matter fi eld appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study. An advanced degree in economics, international relations, security studies, public policy, political science, business, industrial or technology policy, engineering, supply-chain management, or a related discipline. A doctorate or other terminal degree is preferred.

DKI APCSS seeks qualified candidates at the Associate Professor or Professor level specializing in Defense Industrial Base, Industrial Mobilization, and Resilience to join the Department of Capacity and Resilience.
The Center welcomes applications from both established scholar-practitioners and exceptional early-career professionals. The successful candidate's academic rank and salary will be determined based on education, professional experience, scholarly record, teaching and facilitation experience, subject-matter expertise, leadership, and demonstrated capacity to contribute to the DKI APCSS mission.
The successful candidate will educate civilian and military security practitioners on how defense industrial systems generate and sustain the materiel and capabilities required for deterrence and security. The position focuses on the industrial, economic, technological, workforce, and institutional foundations necessary to produce, scale, sustain, and replenish defense capabilities over time.
The position will examine how nations mobilize industrial capacity, strengthen critical supply chains, secure strategic resources, integrate emerging technologies, develop skilled workforces, and collaborate with the private sector to meet defense requirements. It will also examine how allies and partners can strengthen collective industrial capacity through co-development, co-production, sustainment, technology cooperation, and more resilient regional supply networks.
Candidates are not expected to enter the position with expertise across every element of this portfolio. DKI APCSS seeks individuals with demonstrated expertise in relevant areas and the intellectual ability and professional commitment to develop broader expertise in defense industrial capacity, industrial mobilization, and resilience.
Faculty members at DKI APCSS are expected to be more than subject-matter experts. They serve as educators, facilitators, curriculum designers, action officers, researchers, mentors, and institutional leaders. Faculty plan and execute executive education courses, workshops, strategic dialogues, and regional engagements; develop and facilitate curriculum; conduct policy-relevant research; and build relationships with security professionals throughout the Indo-Pacific.
