Design Advanced Digital Hardware from Concept Through Integration
We are seeking an experienced Senior Digital Hardware Design Engineer to relocate to Tucson, Arizona, and support the development of advanced electronic hardware for missile applications.
This is a hands-on, full-lifecycle circuit card design position. It is not limited to FPGA coding or verification. The selected engineer will take processor- and FPGA-based digital hardware from requirements and initial architecture through schematic capture, PCB implementation, laboratory checkout, integration, and transition into production.
The ideal candidate has successfully designed complex, multilayer circuit card assemblies containing processors, FPGAs, memory, and high-speed or industry-standard interfaces.
What You Will Do
  • Develop complex digital electronic modules and circuit card assemblies for advanced missile systems
  • Translate system requirements and design concepts into board-level architecture and detailed hardware designs
  • Create block diagrams, interface definitions, design requirements, and supporting technical documentation
  • Perform component selection, trade studies, and engineering analysis
  • Design processor- and FPGA-based circuit cards containing memory and multiple digital interfaces
  • Perform schematic capture using industry-standard electronic design automation tools
  • Support PCB component placement, routing, stack-up development, and application of design constraints
  • Analyze and simulate designs before hardware fabrication
  • Collaborate with PCB layout, FPGA, software, systems, mechanical, manufacturing, and test engineering teams
  • Develop hardware verification procedures and laboratory test plans
Required Qualifications
  • Active U.S. government-issued Secret security clearance (REQUIRES US Citizenship)
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience developing and designing electronic circuits, circuit card assemblies, or multi-assembly electronic systems
  • Demonstrated ability to take a hardware design from requirements or block-diagram level through completed design, test, and integration
  • Hands-on experience designing complex processors and FPGA-based digital hardware
  • Experience with circuit card or PCB design processes, including:
    • Board-level architecture
    • Component and parts selection
    • Schematic capture
    • PCB layout coordination
    • Design constraints
    • Design analysis or simulation
    • Hardware bring-up
    • Laboratory integration and troubleshooting
  • Experience designing complex, multilayer circuit card assemblies
  • Experience working with processors, FPGAs, memory devices, and digital interfaces
  • Knowledge of interfaces such as:
    • PCIe
    • Ethernet
    • I2C
    • SPI
    • UART
  • Experience developing test plans and verifying hardware using laboratory equipment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing electronics for missiles, avionics, radar, electronic warfare, space, or other defense applications
  • Experience supporting hardware from new-product development through qualification and production
  • Familiarity with FPGA or embedded-software development
  • Experience working with FPGA technologies from Xilinx/AMD, Intel/Altera, Microchip/Microsemi, or similar manufacturers
  • Experience with high-speed digital interfaces, memory architecture, SerDes, or DDR
  • Knowledge of signal-integrity, power-integrity, or timing analysis
  • Experience with Cadence, OrCAD, Altium, Mentor Graphics, Xpedition, or comparable schematic and PCB design tools
  • Experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, JTAG tools, or boundary-scan equipment
  • Experience supporting component obsolescence, failure analysis, environmental qualification, or production troubleshooting

Required Education
Bachelor's degree (or Higher) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM discipline
