Network Management Systems Engineer

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking an Network Management Systems Engineer to support a long-term DOD program focused on enterprise network monitoring, management, and reliability. This position is 100% onsite in Norfolk, VA. The Network Management Systems Engineer will be responsible for the administration, optimization, and support of the Linux infrastructure and Network Management Systems (NMS) platforms used to monitor and manage a large-scale enterprise network. This role combines Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8 administration, NMS application management, network monitoring, automation, and security compliance to ensure high availability and reliable network visibility across the environment.

Responsibilities of the Network Management Systems Engineer include:

• Administer, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot RHEL 8 servers supporting enterprise Network Management Systems across physical, virtual, and air-gapped environments
• Perform RHEL lifecycle management, including system provisioning, configuration, patching, upgrades, and vulnerability remediation
• Monitor and optimize Linux system performance, including kernel parameters, memory allocation, CPU utilization, storage, and filesystem performance
• Manage high-write storage environments using LVM and support capacity planning for NMS databases, logs, and telemetry data
• Utilize Red Hat Satellite and/or custom repositories to manage operating system packages, security errata, and software updates
• Implement and maintain Linux security controls, access policies, and STIG compliance across NMS infrastructure
• Administer enterprise NMS platforms including OpenText NNMi, OpenText Network Automation, Cisco Catalyst Center, Arista CloudVision, and Aruba AirWave
• Deploy, upgrade, configure, and troubleshoot NMS applications and supporting infrastructure
• Configure and maintain network monitoring and telemetry capabilities including SNMP, Syslog, NetFlow, IPFIX, and ICMP
• Configure SNMP polling, MIBs, traps, thresholds, alerts, and notification profiles to provide effective enterprise network monitoring
• Manage and troubleshoot NetFlow and other traffic-collection services used for network performance monitoring and capacity analysis
• Develop and maintain NMS dashboards, alerting mechanisms, network health monitoring, and fault-management workflows
• Analyze NMS data to identify network faults, performance issues, configuration problems, and potential infrastructure outages
• Support root-cause analysis and fault isolation by leveraging NMS telemetry, system logs, packet captures, and network monitoring data
• Integrate NMS platforms with CMDB, ServiceNow, and ITSM environments using APIs and automated workflows
• Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks and Python/Bash scripts to automate server provisioning, user administration, NMS configuration, and repetitive operational tasks
• Support infrastructure-as-code and automated configuration management practices across NMS environments
• Troubleshoot system and application issues using Linux tools including systemd, rsyslog, journald, top, iotop, netstat, tcpdump, and related utilities
• Support high availability, backup, disaster recovery, and resiliency capabilities for critical NMS platforms
• Collaborate with network engineering, cybersecurity, systems administration, and operations teams to maintain reliable enterprise network monitoring
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, configuration documentation, and troubleshooting guides

Qualifications of the Network Management Systems Engineer include:

• 7+ years of experience in systems engineering, network management, network operations, or related infrastructure engineering
• 3-5+ years of hands-on experience supporting enterprise Network Management Systems
• Active Secret clearance
• Hands-on experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8
• Experience deploying, configuring, upgrading, and troubleshooting enterprise NMS platforms
• Experience with one or more of the following: OpenText NNMi, OpenText Network Automation, Cisco Catalyst Center, Arista CloudVision, or Aruba AirWave
• Strong understanding of enterprise network monitoring and management protocols including SNMP/SNMPv3, Syslog, SSH, ICMP, NetFlow, and TACACS+/RADIUS
• Experience configuring SNMP MIBs, traps, polling, thresholds, alerts, and network monitoring workflows
• Experience with Linux system administration, including systemd, rsyslog, journald, LVM, storage management, and system performance troubleshooting
• Experience using Linux troubleshooting and monitoring utilities such as top, iotop, netstat, tcpdump, and similar tools
• Experience with Ansible and scripting using Python and/or Bash
• Experience supporting infrastructure automation and configuration management
• Experience with enterprise network environments and an understanding of routing, switching, network devices, and network management concepts
• Experience supporting security hardening, vulnerability remediation, and DISA STIG compliance
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent experience may be considered

Preferred Qualifications of the Network Management Systems Engineer include:

• RHCSA or RHCE certification
• Experience with Red Hat Satellite and enterprise Linux patch management
• Experience administering OpenText NNMi and OpenText Network Automation
• Experience with Cisco Catalyst Center/DNA Center
• Experience with Arista CloudVision or Aruba AirWave
• Experience integrating NMS platforms with ServiceNow, CMDB, Splunk, or other ITSM/SIEM platforms
• Experience with network telemetry, NetFlow/IPFIX collection, and traffic analytics
• Experience with NMS high availability, disaster recovery, backup, and resiliency
• Experience with APIs and automated integrations between NMS and enterprise systems
• Experience with Kubernetes, containers, or modern NMS application architectures
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automated provisioning
• Experience with network configuration management, configuration drift detection, and automated remediation
• Experience with Git, GitLab, Jenkins, or CI/CD environments
• Familiarity with Agile, DevSecOps, or SRE methodologies

Compensation for the Network Configuration Automation Engineer includes:

• Salary: $95,000-$100,000 depending on experience
