Position Overview
Our client is seeking a Principal Solutions Architect to guide the technical strategy of a high-priority federal technology modernization initiative. This critical role serves as the bridge between complex mission objectives and practical engineering, overseeing the integration of commercial software, secure cloud environments, data analytics, robust cybersecurity, and user-centric applications.
You will work hand-in-hand with agency leadership and engineering teams, taking full ownership of technical decisions from high-level strategy down to deployment.
Responsibilities
• Technical Roadmap: Own the target architecture and long-term technical roadmap for an integrated multi-domain platform.
• Requirements Translation: Deconstruct operational and mission needs into executable, high-performance technical approaches.
• Platform Integration: Evaluate commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) platforms and design seamless integration strategies into existing government networks.
• Architecture Governance: Lead formal architecture reviews and resolve cross-cutting technical decisions and bottlenecks.
• Engineering Guidance: Mentor development teams on scalability, zero-trust security frameworks, system interoperability, and long-term sustainment.
• Risk Reduction: Develop rapid prototypes and proof-of-concept models to validate technical approaches and reduce delivery risk.
• Stakeholder Briefing: Articulate complex architectural decisions and trade-offs clearly to both technical teams and senior government executives.
Minimum Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• Experience: 10 or more years of progressive experience in solutions architecture, enterprise software design, or large-scale systems engineering.
• Technical Breadth: Strong technical depth across SaaS integration, secure cloud platforms, enterprise data management, and federal cybersecurity standards.
• Platform Stewardship: Demonstrated track record of owning the end-to-end architecture for a complex, live production system or platform.
• Collaboration: Proven success working directly alongside agile engineering teams and senior public-sector stakeholders.
• Clearance: Active Secret security clearance is required.
Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience supporting major enterprise modernization programs within the Department of Defense.
• Familiarity with federal data governance, data fabric concepts, and tactical network security requirements.
• Experience supporting government procurement, acquisition programs, or logistics/equipment systems.
• Familiarity with enterprise data analytics environments (such as big-data warehousing, cloud-native analytics, or advanced data management platforms).
• Relevant industry certifications (e.g., AWS/Azure Solutions Architect, CISSP, or systems engineering credentials).
