SPA's Sea Land Air (SLA) Division supports a diverse portfolio of national security government clients, including the Undersea Enterprise, the Navy Surface Community, the Navy MPTE Enterprise, the Air Force, Army, DoW Agencies, DARPA, international clients including the Canadian Navy and Australian Defence Force. Our primary objective is to provide timely, objective and analytic assessments that integrate the policy, operational, technical, programmatic and acquisition aspects of our clients' challenges. Leveraging both in-domain and cross-domain expertise to maximize our clients' success, SLA Division acts as trusted agents to senior decision-makers and key leaders and excels at providing data driven analytic insights, systems engineering, strategies and plans that address current and emerging challenges to national security.
SPA's Operations Research and C5ISR Analysis (ORCA) Group develops and employs simulation system products in support of operations, experimentation, and the acquisition analysis process. ORCA analysts and engineers apply Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) principles and use commercial and proprietary modeling and simulation tools to evaluate warfighting effectiveness and provide recommendations for investments to solve real-world problems. Candidates must be able to work independently and as part of a team; training will be provided.
SPA is seeking a Software Engineer in San Diego, CA to assist with the development of warfare simulations using the Naval Simulation System (NSS) and other software tools to support technical modeling and analysis. Qualified applicants must be innate problem solvers who seek out technical challenges and excel in overcoming them and are adept at working independently and as part of a team.
Responsibilities
The hired candidate has the responsibility of working collaboratively on projects involving SPA and industry modeling and simulation (M&S) tools, most specifically the SPA Naval Simulation System (SPA NSS™) tool. One primary focus will be the new SPA MesaVision™ initiative. This initiative has the goal of using the core strengths of the best M&S tools together to produce the best analysis. The hired candidate will be required to assist senior developers with algorithm development, integration, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- B.S. in Computer Science or related field with an equivalent of 1-2 years of C++ development experience and basic proficiency in Java
- Strong object-oriented programming background, including polymorphism, data structures, and algorithms
- Strong personal initiative with an ability to work creatively in a collaborative team environment, take direction from leadership, peers, and clients, and the ability to learn new skills and technology.
- Detail-oriented, motivated to complete projects, with an ability to meet team and client schedules while working multiple high-profile projects simultaneously
- US CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED; Successful candidates will be subject to a security investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance
Desired Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of professional experience using C++
- AFSIM development experience
- Experience with Agentic AI coding tools to facilitate development and improve understanding and integration of a complex code base
- Working knowledge of full stack software development with knowledge of all aspects of the software development life cycle, AGILE processes, and DEVSECOPS workflows
