Supervisory Security Guard

Duties

• Supervise groups of workers through one or more levels of subordinate supervisors.
• Assign sure that staff are appropriately selected, utilized, and developed work in terms of organizational objectives and special assignments, set priorities, and deadlines.
• Ensure that staff are appropriately selected, utilized, and developed.
• Plan and coordinate the activities of two shifts of security guards.
• Perform managerial and administrative duties relating to the security guard force.

• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
• This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
• The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
• This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
• This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
• This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
• Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
• This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
• Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training in accordance with AR 190-56.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
• A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
• Employee will be assessed under the Individual Reliability Program.
• Must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
• Employee must be able to perform as a member of the installation's overall security response capability.
• Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: work with a federal, state, municipal, local, or private protective organization planning the activities of a security guard force shift, performing access control operations, administering training to ensure personnel are equip to protect against threats to property and personnel, interviewing candidates for employment, evaluating employee performance, and providing recommendations for leave approval and disciplinary action.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).

Additional information

• This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer such as chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton. The incumbent must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
• The incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminals.
• Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
• Employee must be able to perform as a member of the installation's overall security response capability.
