This position will be based at Ashburn, VA (HQ)

Responsibilities:

The Security Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, integrating, maintaining, and improving the technologies and technical controls used to protect Telos Corporation. The Security Engineer works closely with Security Operations, Information Technology, application teams, program personnel, and other business stakeholders to develop secure, reliable, and supportable enterprise solutions.

This position focuses on security platform engineering, automation, vulnerability remediation, system hardening, security architecture support, and advanced technical troubleshooting. Periodic after-hours maintenance and incident support may be required.

Responsibilities:

• Engineer, configure, maintain, integrate, and improve enterprise security technologies, including SIEM, EDR, vulnerability management, network security, identity and privileged access management, data security, threat intelligence, and security monitoring platforms.
• Support the full lifecycle of security technologies, including evaluation, design, implementation, configuration, integration, upgrades, health monitoring, troubleshooting, and retirement.
• Develop and maintain integrations between security platforms, enterprise systems, cloud services, and operational workflows using APIs, scripting, and other automation methods.
• Onboard and maintain security-relevant data sources, validate data quality and coverage, and troubleshoot logging, parsing, collection, and ingestion issues.
• Develop automation that reduces manual effort, improves consistency, accelerates response, and provides measurable operational benefits.
• Support enterprise vulnerability management by identifying technical risks, assisting system owners with remediation, validating corrective actions, and recommending compensating controls when remediation cannot be completed promptly.
• Develop and implement secure configuration standards, technical security baselines, reference architectures, and reusable engineering patterns.
• Participate in security architecture and technical design reviews for enterprise systems, applications, cloud services, and infrastructure changes.
• Evaluate proposed technologies and system changes to identify security requirements, integration dependencies, technical risks, and operational support requirements.
• Provide advanced technical escalation and troubleshooting support to the Security Operations Center, Information Technology, application teams, and program personnel.
• Assist with cybersecurity investigations by collecting and analyzing relevant endpoint, network, identity, application, cloud, and security-platform data.
• Identify gaps in security visibility, platform coverage, system configuration, integration, and technical control effectiveness, and develop practical corrective actions.
• Plan, test, document, and implement security-related changes in accordance with established change-management requirements, including validation and rollback procedures.
• Monitor the operational health, capacity, licensing, support status, and effectiveness of assigned security platforms.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, configuration records, integration specifications, runbooks, operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
• Cross-train other team members and develop documentation that reduces reliance on individual personnel for critical security technologies and processes.
• Coordinate with vendors and service providers to resolve technical issues, evaluate product capabilities, and plan upgrades or improvements.
• Support information security and enterprise technology projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, engineering, or a related field preferred, or the equivalent combination of education, professional training, and work experience.
• Three or more years of experience in security engineering, systems administration, network engineering, cloud engineering, security operations, or a closely related technical field.
• Hands-on experience implementing, administering, integrating, or supporting enterprise security technologies such as SIEM, EDR, vulnerability management, firewalls, identity security, privileged access management, data security, or threat intelligence platforms.
• Experience supporting Windows and Linux operating systems in an enterprise environment.
• Understanding of network architecture, common network protocols, authentication, directory services, certificates, encryption, logging, and system-hardening concepts.
• Experience with cloud technologies, particularly Amazon Web Services, is desirable.
• Experience using PowerShell, Python, APIs, or similar technologies to automate technical and operational processes.
• Ability to analyze complex technical issues, identify root causes, develop corrective actions, and communicate risks clearly.
• Understanding of vulnerability management, secure configuration, change management, incident response, and the security technology lifecycle.
• Ability to create clear technical documentation, architecture diagrams, implementation plans, operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work professionally with technical and non-technical personnel.
• Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple engineering tasks, operational responsibilities, and project requirements.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Security Operations, Information Technology, application teams, program personnel, and other stakeholders.
• Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, documentation, automation, and professional development.
• Must meet or be able to meet applicable DoD 8140 Cyber Workforce qualification requirements when assigned to work requiring those qualifications.
• Industry certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CySA+, SecurityX, SSCP, CISSP, CCSP, AWS Certified Security - Specialty, or relevant vendor certifications are desirable.
• Ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance is preferred.
