Senior Software Engineer

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Software Engineer to support the development, enhancement, deployment, and maintenance of secure enterprise applications. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Core Java, Linux, REST APIs, LDAP, PKI, Apache Tomcat, and relational databases, along with experience developing both front-end and back-end web application components.

What will you do?

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain enterprise applications using Core Java (Java 17 or later).
• Develop and maintain Java-based web applications using JSP, Jakarta Servlets, JavaScript, AJAX, jQuery, HTML5, and CSS.
• Design, develop, and maintain REST APIs and secure API communications using application certificates.
• Develop and support authentication and authorization solutions using LDAP.
• Develop and maintain custom LDAP- and PKI-based applications and tools.
• Configure and maintain database connectivity using JDBC and DAO design patterns with MariaDB/MySQL.
• Develop database utilities, scripts, and connection-pooling solutions without relying on application frameworks.
• Deploy and maintain applications using Apache Tomcat, including configuration of Tomcat connectors and Apache HTTP Server.
• Develop and maintain applications and supporting tools within Linux environments.
• Utilize SSH and PuTTY to support secure system access and custom SSH-based applications.
• Develop scheduled application processes using the Quartz Job Scheduling Library.
• Implement Java-based encoding and decoding functionality using Base64 APIs.
• Develop and maintain secure application functionality using Java Cryptography Architecture (JCA).
• Work with encryption technologies and algorithms including AES, RSA, and ECC.
• Support X.509 certificate management, including certificate parsing, validation, and certificate chaining.
• Generate, manage, and securely store cryptographic key pairs using OpenSSL and RSA.
• Troubleshoot application, certificate, key-pair, authentication, and other PKI-related issues.
• Use Git/GitHub for source-code management and version control.
• Analyze user requirements and translate business and technical needs into effective software solutions.
• Write clean, maintainable, efficient, and well-documented code.
• Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to troubleshoot issues and deliver application enhancements.
• Recommend improvements to existing applications, interfaces, and development processes.
• Stay current with emerging technologies, security practices, and software-development standards.

Do you have what it takes?

• Active TS/SCI with Polygraph
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training, and relevant professional experience.
• 10+ years of software development experience.
• Expert-level experience with Core Java, specifically Java 17 or later.
• Strong understanding of JVM, JRE, and JDK concepts.
• Experience developing Java applications without Spring Boot.
• Experience with Eclipse IDE.
• Strong experience with JavaScript, AJAX, jQuery, JSP, HTML5, CSS, JSON, XML, HTTP/HTTPS, and REST APIs.
• Experience with the Jakarta Servlet API, including servlet lifecycle, request/response processing, and session management.
• Extensive experience with LDAP authentication and authorization.
• Strong experience with Linux system administration and command-line tools.
• Experience with SSH, PuTTY, SSL/TLS, and secure application communications.
• Strong experience with JDBC, DAO patterns, MariaDB/MySQL, and database connectivity.
• Experience deploying and supporting applications using Apache Tomcat 11 or later and Apache HTTP Server.
• Experience with PKI infrastructure, X.509 certificates, OpenSSL, and certificate-based authentication.
• Knowledge of Java Cryptography Architecture (JCA) and cryptographic algorithms including AES, RSA, and ECC.
• Experience with Git/GitHub or comparable source-control tools.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
