Software Engineer 4 (Commercial Nuclear)

Key Responsibilities

• Accurately translate information from engineering documentation into plant models.
• Support the development, testing, and operation of Client's control room simulator and other software projects.
• Develop software following Client's established procedures and processes to maintain configuration control.
• Document software defects using issue tracking software.
• Recommend solutions when errors occur, and identify common-cause issues affecting software performance.
• Solve problems using sound operational principles aligned with company objectives.
• Work under consultative direction toward long-range goals, and collaborate with team members to vet solutions and deliver high-quality work.
• Perform hardware setup and maintenance, such as installing computers and monitors and connecting cables. This may require limited travel to other locations at the company's expense.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

• B.S. degree in Physics, Engineering, or another technical discipline from an accredited college or university (required).
• ABET-accredited engineering program preferred.

Experience

• 5+ years of professional software development experience (internship experience considered), preferred.
• 5+ years of demonstrable software deliverables focused on modeling and simulator development, preferred.
• Experience with thermal-hydraulic and neutronic analysis software is highly desirable.

Required Technical Skills

• Working knowledge of an IDE such as Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code.
• Working knowledge of a revision control system such as Git.

Preferred Technical Skills

• Thermal-hydraulic system codes (e.g., RELAP5, TRACE)
• Neutronic analysis codes (e.g., SIMULATE-3, MCNP)
• GSE simulation software (e.g., SimExec, JTopmeret, JElectric)
• Software development in Fortran, C++, and/or Python
• Project management platforms such as GitLab or GitHub
• Understanding of basic thermal-hydraulic engineering principles
• Understanding of numerical methods for solving coupled partial differential equations in fluid flow and heat transfer
• Ability to read and interpret P&ID drawings

Industry Requirement

• Must be eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
