Junior Systems Administrator

Piper Companies is seeking a Junior Systems Administrator to join a rapidly growing technology organization in the Durham, NC area. This individual will play a key role in supporting core IT infrastructure, Active Directory administration, user and system management, and on-premises environments within a hybrid setting. The Junior Systems Administrator position is ideal for someone with solid systems administration experience who is looking to grow their infrastructure and enterprise technology skillset beyond end-user support. This opportunity starts as a 12-month contract with strong potential for extension and the possibility of converting to a full-time employee based on performance and business needs. The role follows a hybrid schedule, requiring 2 days per week onsite in RTP (Research Triangle Park), with the remaining days working remotely.

Responsibilities of the Junior Systems Administrator:

• Administer and support Active Directory environments, including user provisioning, group management, permissions, and account maintenance.
• Assist with the administration and maintenance of Windows Server environments and core infrastructure services.
• Support on-premises and hybrid infrastructure, ensuring system availability, performance, and reliability.
• Troubleshoot server, workstation, authentication, and infrastructure-related issues across the environment.
• Partner with network, security, and infrastructure teams to support day-to-day operations and ongoing technology initiatives.
• Assist with system upgrades, patching, deployments, and infrastructure improvement projects.
• Maintain technical documentation, procedures, and system configurations.
• Support Microsoft technologies including Active Directory, Entra ID, Microsoft 365, and related enterprise platforms.

Qualifications of the Junior Systems Administrator:

• Must be eligible to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
• 2+ years of experience in Systems Administration, Infrastructure Support, Server Administration, or a related IT role.
• Strong experience with Active Directory, including account administration, permissions management, and Group Policy exposure.
• Experience supporting Windows Server environments and enterprise infrastructure.
• Familiarity with Microsoft technologies such as Microsoft 365, Entra ID (Azure AD), Intune, or Exchange is highly preferred.
• Experience troubleshooting authentication, access, server, and infrastructure-related issues.
• Exposure to virtualization technologies, cloud platforms, or hybrid environments is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently while partnering with technical teams.

Compensation for the Junior Systems Administrator Includes:

• Base salary of $90,000 - $115,000, depending on experience
• Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO, and sick leave as required by law
