Position Summary
CAD Engineer I responsibilities include engineering design support, drafting and modeling of new products and production of detailed installation drawing packages and graphical content for access control, intrusion detection and video surveillance systems for high security applications. The role of the position is to develop and maintain detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, controls, and processes by using computer-aided drafting (CAD) equipment. The designer will manage projects by handling design drawings. They must have prior experience with Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering design principles. This position requires the individual to have mastered 2D and 3D design planes, strong mathematical skills and knowledge of CAD software and support equipment like plotters. They will have strong creative, organizational and communication skills, be goal oriented, ambitious, accept empowerment within boundaries, and desire to work within cross functional team environments. Ability to present a professional image and commitment to customer service are essential.
Responsibilities
Modify and revise security system designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems
Develop and design detailed specifications for components or equipment using computer aided design software
Coordinate with and consult other workers to design, layout, or detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems
Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting designs
Track, control and organize drawings through versioning and part number issuance within the established part numbering system.
Ensure compliance with system design documentation, and document any deviations
Recommend and participate in the development of engineering changes as needed
Ensure tasks are completed within time constraints and on schedule
Interface directly with clients, document and forward through proper channels client requirements and requests for additional service
Master government high security requirements and design principals
Perform a wide variety of tasks and change focus quickly as demands change
Qualifications and Credentials
Demonstrated planning and organizational skills
Ability to use an engineering scale and calipers
Ability to generate accurate and scaled drawings based on physical components in hand
Familiarity with CAD symbols and standards
Familiarity with security, access control and video surveillance engineering design standards
Experience with GIS mapping and ESRI compliant ArcGIS
Ability to read and interpret architectural plans and specifications and translate this into drawing content
Ability to generate electrical schematics, interconnection diagrams and other related drawings under direction from Engineering staff
Effective written and verbal communication ability, in the English language
Creative flair and graphical design exposure
Education Requirements
Associates of Applied Science (AAS) Degree in Design and Drafting or 5+ years 2D & 3D CAD Software and drafting experience (AutoCAD 2016-2019, Solidworks, etc.)
Certification in Graphics Design (Photoshop, Illustrator, Visio etc.)
Security Clearance
Able to obtain a SECRET security clearance
