Apex Systems is currently hiring a Network Engineer (Riverbed Modeler SME) with a large federal client. As a Network Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader responsible for designing, modeling, simulating, and analyzing complex network architectures. You will leverage Riverbed Modeler to evaluate network performance, reliability, and scalability while supporting mission-critical network modernization and architecture efforts.
Project Details / Mission Supported:
• Create, execute, and analyze high-fidelity discrete-event simulations using Riverbed Modeler to evaluate network performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for routing, switching, transport, and network protocol analysis.
• Design, model, and validate complex LAN, WAN, and wireless network architectures prior to deployment.
• Modify existing simulation models and develop custom models using C/C++ to support proprietary and emerging protocol requirements.
• Analyze OSI Layers 0-3, including physical, data link, and network layer technologies.
• Evaluate network performance metrics including bandwidth utilization, packet loss, latency, and throughput.
• Identify system bottlenecks and recommend improvements to network architecture and design.
• Support architecture validation efforts through simulation and modeling activities.
• Document simulation methodologies, test scenarios, results, findings, and technical recommendations.
• Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to develop optimized network solutions supporting mission requirements.
Qualified candidates will have the following experience and skills:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• Significant experience in network design, network architecture, and modeling/simulation environments.
• Expert-level experience utilizing Riverbed Modeler, including Discrete Event Simulation (DES).
• Strong understanding of OSI Layers 0-3 technologies.
• Deep knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP, routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF, and WAN technologies including MPLS.
• Experience designing, implementing, and testing complex WAN, LAN, and WLAN architectures.
• Strong C or C++ programming skills for protocol modeling and simulation customization.
• Experience tracing data packets, troubleshooting network performance issues, and analyzing network behavior.
• Experience utilizing traffic analysis and troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark.
• Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with Riverbed SteelCentral AppResponse and/or NetPlanner.
• Experience supporting RF modeling environments.
• Experience with satellite communications simulations and Layer 0/1 technologies.
• Background supporting defense, aerospace, or large-scale enterprise networking environments.
• Experience developing technical reports and architecture recommendations for senior stakeholders.
Location: Chantilly, VA
Onsite expectation: Partial Remote / Hybrid
Clearance Level: Ability to Obtain and Maintain an Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance
Salary/Pay Range: $95.00 - $110.00/hour W2
