The Payload and Ground Systems organization within the Northrop Grumman Space Systems pushes the boundaries of innovation, redefines engineering capabilities, and drives advances in various sciences. Typical Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Maintains smooth operation of local area and virtual private networks (VPN). Plans, evaluates, and coordinates installation and/or reconfiguration of hardware and software elements of data and/or voice communication network. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of networks and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. May propose solutions to management to ensure all communications requirements based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings. Prepares or ensures that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions. Provides regular monitoring and network analysis regarding short- and long-range planning for in-house systems. May coordinate third-party maintenance for network equipment. May design network or portion of network that include selection of hardware and software packages.
What You’ll get to Do:
• Must have the experience, maturity, and motivation to work with small teams as well as individually, interface with customers and senior managers. This position is primarily focused on the Operations & Sustainment of several interconnected networks; however, knowledge of System and Network Engineering processes, Agile development, and DevOps is essential for mission success.
• Assist in the implementation of required government policies and directives. Provide recommendations on project tailoring, and participate in and document project activities.
• Support a team of Information Technology (IT) personnel with varying levels of competence in Windows, Linux operating systems and networking platforms to include legacy serial communications. Providing mentorship in networking and mission system operational concepts.
• Position is normally Mon – Fri; may require on-call, evening, and weekend support during system anomalies or mission requirements.
• Experience with diagnosing, mitigating, logically troubleshooting issues, and contribute to other mission related teams through system testing, log analysis, and direct problem solving techniques.
• Hands-on experience and knowledge of Juniper network design and testing methodologies using Juniper routers, switches, and firewalls.
• Experience with COMSEC equipment, policies and procedures
• General understanding of trouble ticket practices and tracking processes
• Familiar with VMware products, ESXi, vCenter, virtual machines, and Microsoft clustering.
• Experience with Linux tcpdump, network sniffers, capabilities and troubleshooting.
• Familiar with NAS/SAN technologies to support networking and server storage NIFS / CIFS file shares (e.g., EMC, PURE storage).
• Experience in clearing and disposing of classified hardware in accordance with security policies and procedures.
• Experience in Server System Administration and troubleshooting analysis in some or all of the following platforms: Linux and Windows servers/clients.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders ranging from technical staffers up to senior program managers.
• Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment with other highly motivated system engineers, software developers, and system/network administrators.
• Candidate must be a self-starting problem solver, with the capability to work with limited supervision for troubleshooting to resolution.
• Experience hardening systems using DoD STIGS
• Experience or understanding in serial EIA 530 / RS-530 communication
• Experience with Juniper network design and testing methodologies using Juniper routers, switches, and firewalls
• Experience with cable infrastructure including fabrication, layout, design, documentation, termination, and testing (e.g. Copper, Fiber, Cat 6, Serial and COAX)
• Hands on experience with any of the following tools:
• Fire BERD or other Serial BERT test equipment and methods *Confluence and Jira
• WSUS/YUM Repository
• VMWare vSphere, or vCenter
• Active Directory, OpenLDAP
Basic Qualifications:
• Must have a Bachelor’s Degree (additional years in lieu of degree is acceptable)
• Security + or other current DoD 8570 approved certification
• TS/SCI Clearance with counterintelligence (CI) polygraph
Preferred Qualification:
• Experience hardening systems using DoD STIGS
• Experience or understanding in serial EIA 530 / RS-530 communication
• Experience with Juniper network design and testing methodologies using Juniper routers, switches, and firewalls
• Experience with cable infrastructure including fabrication, layout, design, documentation, termination, and testing (e.g. Copper, Fiber, Cat 6, Serial and COAX)
Compensation: $110,000 - $160,000.
