DevOps Engineer
ICE Data Quality Improvement (DQI) Support Services
Project Overview
We are standing up a data quality and modernization program for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). The program works through 43 known data quality error types found in ICE case management data, using a structured process to categorize each error, analyze its root cause, apply a fix, remediation or process change, and then evaluate the result. Cross functional teams made up of data analysts, data scientists, data engineers, database administrators, AI and automation developers, and law enforcement subject matter experts each take on a set of these errors and work them through to closure.
The program also supports responsible AI adoption. As data is cleaned, the team evaluates where AI can help with future error detection, trains and validates models against that cleaned data, and monitors performance over time. Because the work involves law enforcement data and personally identifiable information, everything is built to meet DHS privacy, security and records management requirements. The toolset in use includes Databricks, Python, UiPath, Jira, Power Apps and Power BI, along with other approved tools inside the ICE environment.
Position Summary
We are hiring a DevOps Engineer to support the Innovation team on this program. This person will build and maintain the pipelines and environments the team uses to develop, test and deploy fixes, automations and AI tools, and will work closely with data engineers, developers and database administrators to keep releases moving smoothly and securely. This is a senior, hands on role with limited day to day oversight, and includes coaching and reviewing the work of more junior technical staff.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support development and deployment of data fixes, automations and AI tools across the program
• Work with data engineers, developers and database administrators to deploy and support solutions built in Python, UiPath and Databricks
• Set up and maintain development, test and production environments that meet DHS privacy, security and records management requirements
• Manage version control, build automation, release processes and environment configuration
• Automate testing, monitoring and routine infrastructure tasks to support reliable, repeatable delivery
• Troubleshoot pipeline, environment and integration issues, and work with the broader team to resolve them quickly
• Support the rollout of AI and automation tools, including any needed containerization or secure deployment steps
• Document pipelines, environments and standard operating procedures for the team
• Coach and review the work of lower level technical team members
• Communicate with government stakeholders on deployment status, environment changes and technical issues as needed
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Hands on experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines (Git, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitLab or similar)
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure
• Strong scripting and automation skills, ideally in Python
• Experience with containerization and infrastructure as code
• Comfortable working as a lead technical contributor in Agile or Waterfall environments
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to work directly with government stakeholders
• Must be able to obtain and maintain the level of clearance or suitability required for this DHS contract
Preferred
• Experience with Databricks or a similar data platform
• Experience with UiPath or other RPA tools
• Prior experience supporting a DHS, ICE, or other federal law enforcement contract
