Position Summary 

The Systems Engineer - Cloud Storage, Backup & Disaster Recovery supports our government customer's enterprise storage and backup operations with an emphasis on cloud computing. The position provisions, configures, maintains, and improves hybrid infrastructure; supports cloud failover and disaster recovery; and strengthens the security, availability, and reliability of storage and backup services. Working with government personnel, technical teams, and vendors, the Systems Engineer provides hands-on engineering, troubleshooting, and documentation across on-premises and cloud environments on NIPRNet and SIPRNet. 

This position is contingent upon contract award.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provision, install, configure, operate, and maintain storage and backup hardware, software, and related infrastructure.
• Support Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) environments and help maintain the availability and performance of critical enterprise applications and systems.
• Plan, coordinate, perform, and document pre-failover, test, and post-failover activities for replicated applications in support of Information System Contingency Plan (ISCP) exercises.
• Perform annual disaster recovery testing for cloud-hosted enterprise file shares and prepare after-action reports documenting activities and results.
• Develop, integrate, and oversee storage arrays, Fiber Channel switches, and related components.
• Implement file-sharing technologies, manage backup policies, perform file and system restorations, and monitor data restore and disaster recovery capabilities across on-premises and cloud environments.
• Support Cybersecurity Cloud Vulnerability Assessments (CVA) in NIPRNet and SIPRNet environments; identify security weaknesses, harden storage and backup technologies, and recommend configurations that meet operational security standards.
• Apply software and firmware updates and DISA Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) settings.
• Support audits, maintain Plans of Action and Milestones (POAM), and prepare Ports, Protocols and Services Management (PPSM) registrations and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificate requests.
• Perform daily system checks, preventive maintenance, storage analysis, capacity planning, and performance planning.
• Resolve advanced storage and backup issues, coordinate vendor support through resolution, and research technologies and process improvements to optimize the environment.
• Create and maintain Azure, AWS, and OCI storage and backup administration guides, operational procedures, specifications, configurations, project plans, test plans, and test results.
• Communicate technical designs, project objectives, scope, and status to technical and non-technical audiences and provide activity and system-health reporting.
• Resolve ServiceNow (SNOW) tickets, tasks, change requests, and incidents within established service levels with little to no oversight.
• Maintain current records and status updates, prepare change-control documentation, and support mission-critical outage resolution and progress reporting.
• Participate in weekly primary/alternate on-call rotations and provide 24/7 mission-critical outage support when assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must possess a SECRET security clearance and required IT-I Critical Sensitive (Tier 5/SSBI) security access and investigation approvals before work begins.
• Five (5) years of overall professional experience in the engineering field, including evaluating, manufacturing, and integrating enterprise-level storage and backup software technologies.
• Three (3) years of hands-on experience managing hybrid storage infrastructure using Microsoft Azure cloud and/or Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• Two (2) years of hands-on enterprise Storage Area Network (SAN) management experience, including Fibre Channel zoning, iSCSI, FCoE unified fabric, HBA/CNA, storage controllers, LUN, RAID, and file sharing/NAS.
• Experience with enterprise hierarchical storage management and backup/restore services using products such as Cohesity NetBackup, AWS Backup, Microsoft Azure Recovery Services/Site Recovery, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Backup and Disaster Recovery.
• Two (2) years of hands-on experience working with Department of War (DoW) IT systems.
• Must meet IAT-II requirements and applicable duty-based cyber workforce and computing-environment/operating-system qualification requirements.
• Must maintain current credentials for the systems administered.
• Must possess applicable computing-environment certification(s) for assigned technologies. Relevant certifications include AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional; Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert; NetApp Certified Hybrid Cloud Administrator; NetApp Certified Hybrid Cloud Architect; NetApp Certified Hybrid Cloud Implementation Engineer; Cohesity Certified Protection Associate - DataProtect; and Cohesity Certified Protection Professional - NetBackup.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience coordinating application failovers, cloud-hosted file-share recovery testing, and ISCP exercises with clear documentation of activities and results.
• Practical knowledge of Cohesity, NetBackup, AWS Backup, Azure Recovery Services/Site Recovery, and OCI storage, backup, and disaster recovery.
• Experience supporting cloud vulnerability assessments, DISA STIG hardening, POAM reporting, and security audits.
• Skill in capacity and performance analysis, advanced storage and backup troubleshooting, and evaluating technology and process improvements.
• Ability to develop administration guides, configuration records, project and test plans, and recovery reports and explain technical designs to varied audiences.
• Experience resolving ServiceNow tickets, incidents, and changes within service levels and coordinating with technical teams and vendors during outages.

Physical Demands and Work Environment 

Work is primarily performed on-site in secure DoD/Federal enterprise IT environments. The position generally requires eight-hour workdays Monday through Friday, with core hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. local time within a 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. work window. Operational requirements may require evening or weekend support. The employee must be able to participate in on-call rotations and mission-critical outage response. Remote work requires approval and is not guaranteed.

Travel

Domestic travel may be required for disaster recovery and continuity support.

Shift

Generally, Monday-Friday, eight hours per day; core hours 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. local time within a 6:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. work window. Weekly primary/alternate on-call rotation and 24/7 mission-critical outage support may be required.

The salary range listed represents a good faith estimate and is provided in compliance with applicable pay transparency laws. The final compensation offered will be determined based on a variety of factors, including your skills, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and market conditions.
