Job Description:
The Custodian III is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, orderly, and well-maintained environment throughout the facility. This position performs routine and specialized custodial services, including cleaning and sanitizing common areas, restrooms, conference rooms, cafeterias, floors, windows, and other assigned areas. The Custodian III operates and maintains cleaning equipment, handles cleaning chemicals safely, removes waste, maintains custodial supplies, and performs deep-cleaning and special projects as needed. The position also identifies and reports maintenance issues and facility deficiencies to the appropriate supervisor.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The primary functions include, but are not limited to:
Cleans common areas including (but not limited to) restrooms, conference rooms, office spaces and cafeterias
Cleans floors and surfaces by wiping, sweeping, mopping or scrubbing as needed
Dusts furniture, washes walls, dusts and polishes light fixtures, cleans windows and dusts blinds
Gathers and empties trash bins/receptacles
Follows procedures for use of chemical cleaners and power cleaning equipment to prevent damage to floors/fixtures
Stocks and maintain supply rooms as needed
Perform deep cleaning tasks and special projects (i.e. waxing floors, shampooing carpets) as needed
Report maintenance deficiencies and items in need of repair to supervisor
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 1 year janitorial experience
Experience in commercial/institutional cleaning preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Basic English language skills
Attention to detail
Able to prioritize work
Interact effectively with employees at all organizational levels
Work Environment
This role is located primarily within the facility, with regular exposure to restrooms, common areas, and the manufacturing floor. The Custodian III regularly works with cleaning chemicals, solvents, and disinfectants, and must follow established procedures for safe handling, storage, and use. The role involves contact with wet or slippery floor surfaces, and the employee must use appropriate caution and warning signage when mopping, waxing, or performing other tasks that create slip hazards. Noise levels are usually moderate, though the employee may be exposed to varying temperatures and to machinery, moving equipment, loading docks, or storage areas when working on the manufacturing floor. The employee will have occasional contact with trash, waste, or other materials that require standard precautions. This is a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities, and the employee may occasionally need to work outside standard business hours, including evenings or weekends, to complete deep-cleaning projects or respond to urgent facility needs.
Physical Requirements
Heavy Work- This role requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Most essential functions are performed while standing.
Regularly required to walk up and down stairs.
Regularly required to talk or hear.
Regular use of hands to finger, handle, or feel.
Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Vision abilities include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Ability to use ladder and step stool when needed.
This role is subject to both outside and inside environmental conditions.
