PDS Defense, Inc. is seeking a Digital Electronics Engineer, in Miami, FL.
Job Description:
The Digital Electronics Engineer designs, develops, verifies, and tests complex digital electronic systems used in Engineering avionics products, with emphasis on VHDL, FPGAs, ASICs, microprocessors, and microcontrollers. This position applies digital design and verification principles throughout the development lifecycle while supporting compliance with applicable airborne electronic hardware requirements, including DO-254.
The Digital Electronics Engineer collaborates with Hardware, Software, Systems, Test, and Quality personnel to define requirements, develop robust digital architectures, perform simulation and laboratory verification, and maintain technical documentation and traceability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to:
Digital Design & Implementation
* Develop and implement digital designs using VHDL and applicable hardware-description techniques to achieve required functionality, performance, and reliability.
* Design and optimize digital circuits using microprocessors, microcontrollers, FPGAs, and ASICs with consideration for power consumption, timing, and resource utilization.
* Collaborate with hardware engineers to define system requirements, specifications, interfaces, and design constraints.
* Perform synthesis, place-and-route, timing analysis, and related implementation activities using industry-standard EDA tools.
Verification & Laboratory Testing
* Develop simulations, test benches, and verification activities to confirm correctness and robustness of digital designs.
* Use laboratory equipment and debugging tools to test, troubleshoot, and validate digital hardware.
* Analyze design or verification anomalies and implement appropriate corrective actions.
DO-254 Compliance & Documentation
* Develop and review design documentation including block diagrams, design descriptions, requirements, traceability records, and test plans.
* Support compliance with DO-254 throughout the design and development process, including requirements capture, traceability, verification, and certification objectives.
* Collaborate with Software Engineering to support integration of digital designs into larger avionics system architectures.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of digital design processes, tools, methodologies, and technical standards.
Required Qualifications
Education
* Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field required.
Experience
* Proven experience in digital electronic design, with focus on VHDL programing, FPGAs, ASICS And DO-254 compliance.
* Demonstrated experience in digital electronics design with VHDL, FPGAs, ASICs, microprocessors/microcontrollers, and applicable verification activities required.
* Experience with DO-254 or other airborne electronic hardware certification processes strongly preferred.
* Aerospace or avionics electronics development experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Proficiency in VHDL for digital design and simulation.
* Strong knowledge of FPGA and ASIC design methodologies including synthesis, place-and-route, and timing analysis.
* Familiarity with DO-254 and certification objectives for airborne electronic hardware.
* Experience with EDA tools such as Xilinx Vivado, Intel/Altera Quartus, or equivalent platforms.
* Strong understanding of digital logic, synchronous and asynchronous circuits, timing constraints, and hardware interfaces.
* Proficiency with laboratory equipment and debugging tools used for digital design verification.
* Excellent analytical, problem-solving, documentation, communication, and teamwork skills.
* Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
