JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Controller of the corporate parent, the Senior Accountant – US Govt. assumes end‑to‑end ownership of EarthDaily U.S. Defense & Intelligence financial operations. As the sole contributor for this market, you independently manage full‑cycle accounting, maintain a GovCon‑compliant accounting infrastructure, and execute month‑end close with complete accountability. You lead all FAR/DFARS/CAS compliance, oversee classified program financials, and ensure the company remains audit‑ready as contract volume grows. In this braod and hybrid role—part GL accountant, government‑contracts accountant, cost analyst, compliance officer, and financial advisor—you prepare all financial reports, lead cost reporting, perform recurring and ad‑hoc analysis, optimize systems and controls, and troubleshoot issues across the entire Defense & Intelligence accounting landscape.Reporting to the Accounting Manager of the corporate finance team, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day accounting transactions, maintaining the general ledger, processing month-ends and other duties as required. You will run the close, maintain GovCon-compliant accounting infrastructure, and keep the company audit-ready as contract volume grows. This position prepares financial reports, undertakes recurring and ad-hoc analysis, supports system optimization, and troubleshoots issues as needed.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Full-Cycle GL Owenership/Financial Reporting/Month-Eend
• Prepare and post month-end journal entries (revenue, cost of sales, accruals, currency revaluations, etc.) and reconcile general ledger accounts
• Maintain GovCon accounting infrastructure: indirect rate structures, cost pools, and DCAA audit readiness
• Execute the month-end close process, ensuring completeness and accuracy of journal entries, reconciliations, and close checklists
• Prepare month-end working papers and reconciliations, including bank and credit card reconciliations, bonus, vacation, prepaids, revenue accruals, deferred and unbilled revenue, professional fees, accrued liabilities, labour reclasses, commissions accruals, intercompany balances, and other GL account reconciliations as required.
• Perform detailed variance analysis of actual results versus budget and forecast, as well as period-over-period comparisons; investigate root causes, document results, and proactively escalate material variances to management
• Prepare AR listings and supporting schedules for the month-end reporting deck as required
• Prepare weekly cashflow file for EarthDaily Federal
• Prepare and maintain monthly Fixed Assets and Intangibles continuity schedules, including depreciation and amortization
• Prepare monthly US GAAP financial statements, including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow statements, and support review and consistent implementation of accounting policies

Government Contract Accounting (FAR/DFARS/CAS Frameworks)
• Maintain compliance with all US government contracting frameworks and internal controls
• Ensure cost allowability, allocability, and reasonableness for all D&I project charges
• Prepare and reconcile working capital or cost‑type contract financials
• Originate and validate accounting data in government‑unique systems
• Support classified program cost reporting

Accounts Payable/Receivable
• Perform all accounts payable procedures and ensure accuracy of POs, payment runs, and proposed payment listing; maintain familiarity with vendors, overdue payments, etc.
• Prepare coding on corporate credit card statements & expense reports
• Reconcile accounts receivable and accounts payable listings on weekly and ad-hoc basis to ensure reporting is up to date
• Update systems for new deals won, update billing, and prepare revenue, deferred revenue, and unbilled revenue reconciliation
• Prepare customer invoices as required
• Facilitate seamless communication and collaboration between finance, sales, and customer service teams to ensure accurate and timely billing.

Quarterly and Year end Corporate Reporting
• Assist with preparation of financial statement note disclosure and related audit working papers for capital assets, intangible assets and other notes as assigned
• Assist year end audit and quarterly review requests for relevant areas of the GL and/or entities
• Assist with preparation of FS notes in accordance with US GAAP

Tax/Regulatory Filings
• Assist with preparation of corporate tax returns and providing backup to external tax advisors
• Prepare US Sales tax returns & other misc. filings
• Prepare year-end tax note WP & disclosure
• Coordinate with Corporate Finance to ensure sufficient funds in bank accounts for any tax payments

Payroll & Bonus
• Prepare payroll journal, ensuring appropriate accruals are recorded
• Coordinate with Corporate Finance to ensure sufficient funds in bank accounts on payroll & benefit funding dates
• Collaborate with HR on monthly and quarterly accruals, including preparing accrual working papers and journal entries, while ensuring sufficient funds are available for any relevant payments.

Other Support
• Assist with process improvements to accounting processes and ensure coding is according to budget
• Assist in new accounting software implementation
• Support preparation of calculation of labour rates, contract pricing, and cost accounting analysis as required

Position Requirements

Education
• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Aaccounting or Business Administration or equivalent years of experience; Graduate education or certifications that strengthen government contracting framework understanding
Designations
• CPA designation
Experience

• 105+ years including of full-cycle accounting in private hi-technology organizations and g, or public practice experience in a hands-on and oversight capacityin a review capacity; high-tech experience desirable
• Government contracting accounting experience: indirect rates, FAR cost principles, DCAA exposure
• Experience with GovCon accounting systems (Unanet, Deltek Costpoint, or similar)
Skills/
Knowledge

• Strong technical accounting foundation with expertise in US GAAP and solid research skills
• Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Sage, NetSuite) and accounting workflow tools such as Databasics, Ramp, and Expensify (experience is an asset)
• ExcellentStrong analytical and problem-solving skills as a sole contributor, with the ability to identify issues, determine root causes, and implement solutions
