Test Engineer (Air‑to‑Air / Air‑to‑Surface)

Position Summary

Odyssey Systems has an exciting opportunity for a Test Engineer (Air-to-Air / Air-to-Surface) supporting the 780th Test Squadron under the TMAS III contract at Eglin AFB, FL.

The 780th Test Squadron is the Air Force's developmental test agency for air-to-air, air-to-surface, direct-fire, and advanced munitions. The candidate should possess working knowledge of airborne weapon systems, as well as fighter/bomber tactics and weapons employment within USAF, USN, or USMC environments. Prior experience in developmental weapons testing and/or operational testing is highly desired. Aircrew experience is also highly desired.

This is a full-time, onsite position at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but not limited to:

• Establish standards for test documentation and technical reporting.
• Provide technical review of test directives, methods of test, data packages, letter reports, and technical reports.
• Present test strategy, objectives, and procedures to leadership at Safety Review Boards and Test Approval Boards.
• Provide technical management and accomplish engineering duties related to test and evaluation of major programs, including development tests, engineering evaluation tests, operational evaluation tests, and joint T&E programs for A/A and A/S weapons.
• Develop test planning documentation for emerging weapon programs.
• Provide a range of technical and administrative support to the Flight Chief.
• Represent the Squadron and AFTC at conferences and with external organizations including HQ USAF, HQ USA, HQ USN, OSD, DHS, foreign partners, and industry regarding T&E of conventional weapons and compatibility with airborne, seaborne, or ground systems.
• Forecast test assets and range requirements.
• Integrate with program offices and prime contractors.
• Brief and debrief executing aircrew on mission requirements and execution.
• Serve as Test Conductor during test mission execution.

Qualifications

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen

Minimum Required Qualifications

Clearance: Active Secret or higher with SAP eligibility

Education: Master's degree in engineering and 10+ years relevant experience (years of experience may substitute for degree).

• Ability to communicate clearly with diverse stakeholders and manage competing test resource requirements.
• Strong communication and technical writing skills.
• Ability to work as part of an integrated team.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in DoD weapons acquisition processes.
• Flight test or military aircrew flight experience (fighter/bomber aircraft).
• Test Conductor experience with military systems.
• Experience with USAF/USN fighter, bomber, attack test operations and weapon systems.
• Graduate of Test Pilot School or Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun) strongly desired.

Technical Skills

• Working knowledge of airborne weapon systems.
• Understanding of fighter/bomber tactics and airborne weapons employment (USAF/USN/USMC).
• Experience in developmental or operational testing of munitions (highly desired).
• Ability to review technical test documentation, directives, reports, and data packages.
• Proficiency developing test strategies, methods of test, and technical procedures.
• Understanding of DoD weapons acquisition processes (preferred).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to forecast test assets, coordinate range requirements, and work with program offices and prime contractors.

Interpersonal Skills

• Ability to communicate clearly with multiple stakeholders and resolve competing test resource requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of an integrated team.
• Strong verbal communication and technical writing skills.
• Ability to brief and debrief aircrew and represent the squadron across DoD organizations and industry.
• Self-motivated with ability to learn new systems under test, proactively meet program needs, and take ownership of assigned tasks.
