We are looking for an AR/VR Training Developer to join our Air Systems Maintenance Training team in Palmdale, CA. In this role, you will design, develop, and implement immersive training solutions using visualization technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) within a pre‑existing Unity‑based training environment. You will collaborate with subject matter experts, instructional designers, and software engineers to create interactive, realistic training experiences for aircraft maintainers, operational staff, and external customers.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Track and document the progress of instructional design and AR/VR training projects, ensuring milestones and deadlines are met.
- Utilize project management tools to monitor timelines, resource allocation, and deliverables, and provide regular status updates on development efforts.
- Ability to design and develop 3D assets, environments, and animations for VR training modules.
- Apply immersive learning workflows — from concept and wireframing through animation, interactivity, and testing — to ensure instructional effectiveness.
- Apply instructional design and learning experience design frameworks (e.g., ADDIE, SAM, Bloom’s taxonomy) to guide training design and development.
- Build interactive VR training experiences in ModestTree (Unity‑based training software).
- Collaborate with instructional designers and subject matter experts to translate learning objectives into engaging, immersive visual experiences.
- Test and refine VR simulations, incorporating user feedback and performance data to improve usability and training effectiveness.
- Ensure training content aligns with technical data and applicable military/government requirements.
- Document development processes, workflows, and milestones to support repeatable, scalable AR/VR training production.
- Develop and coordinate curriculum, training schedules, and learning aids that support AR/VR training deliverables.
- Observe all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies, and maintain safety standards whenever conducting business on behalf of the company.
- Work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (or equivalent experience) and six (6) or more years of relevant professional experience.
- 3+ years of experience in instructional design, learning experience design, and/or simulation design.
- General understanding of how to translate and integrate technical writing/source material into effective training curricula.
- Experience writing scripts, scenarios, and branching interactions for training or simulations.
- Proficiency with 3D modeling and animation software (e.g., Blender).
- Experience developing in Unity and/or Unity‑based virtual reality applications.
- Experience applying instructional design principles and adult learning theory to training products.
- Experience building and optimizing VR experiences for standalone headsets (e.g., Meta Quest 3), including interaction design and performance tuning.
- Experience in defense, aerospace, or other complex technical training environments.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Demonstrated curiosity and ability to learn outside of core discipline.
- Strong customer focus and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
- Ability to work extended hours and travel, as needed.
- Work full time, 100% onsite with team members in Palmdale, CA.
