Sr Site Reliability Engineer (SRE for Compute Platform)

Our client, a large professional services firm located in San Ramon, CA, is looking to hire a deeply technical Sr. Site Reliability Engineer for a 3-month contract with potential to hire position. The consultant will be expected to design, implement, and support Kubernetes on bare-metal and hypervisor platforms in a private cloud environment. This role drives the architecture, standardization, and automation of enterprise compute spanning bare metal infrastructure, operating systems, private cloud orchestration, and Kubernetes using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and GitOps practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design of enterprise compute, virtualization, and container orchestration layers (Kubernetes on bare metal via ArgoCD).
• Design and implement Bare Metal as a Service (BMaaS) frameworks, PXE-based provisioning environments, and Redfish API integrations.
• Develop and maintain automation workflows using Ansible, Terraform, Helm, Git, Python, and Bash.
• Build pipelines for automated OS deployment (Ubuntu, Harvester), server builds, firmware management, patching, and rollbacks.
• Conduct deep-dive troubleshooting across storage, Kubernetes, hypervisors, and networking; participate in escalation support.

Required Skills:

• 6+ years in infrastructure/platform engineering or DevOps with a heavy focus on compute system design.
• Hands-on experience automating bare-metal environments at scale, PXE boot, network-based provisioning, and BMaaS.
• Practical experience with Redfish APIs and enterprise hardware (Cisco UCS, Dell PowerEdge, Supermicro, or HPE).
• Expert-level Ubuntu Linux skills alongside KVM hypervisors (e.g., OpenStack, SUSE Harvester).
• Strong track record deploying production-grade Kubernetes clusters using Terraform and Ansible.
• Must be explicitly interested in and eligible for a permanent contract-to-hire transition.

Desired Skills

• Advanced OpenStack or Ubuntu KVM administration.
• Experience in telco, edge cloud, or massive-scale enterprise environments.
• Compliance knowledge (CIS/NIST security standards) or ITIL certifications.
• Certifications: CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator), CKS (Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist), or Ubuntu certifications.
