GENERAL JOB SUMMARY :

The Electrical Technician supports the daily operations of the electrical laboratory by performing hands ? on assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation of electrical components and systems. This role executes cable and harness builds, PCB assembly and testing, and component , and system - level evaluations to support engineering, prototyping, and product development activities. Working under the direction of the Electrical Lab Manager, the technician collaborates closely with engineering teams as well as mission and experiment providers moving through the facility, helping to ensure timely , high - quality technical support in a dynamic operational environment. The position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to perform precise, repeatable work in a fast - paced mission - driven laboratory.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

PRIMARY:

• Perform cable and harness manufacturing, including assembly, crimping, soldering, inspection, and continuity testing.

• Assemble, rework, and test PCBs following established procedures and quality standards.

• Conduct component - level and system - level electrical testing using standard lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, and functional test setups.

• Document test results, build records, and configuration changes accurately and consistently.

• Follow established lab procedures, safety protocols, ESD controls, and quality requirements.

• Assist with troubleshooting electrical issues in prototypes and production assemblies under direction of engineering or management.

• Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of tools, equipment, and workstations.

SECONDARY:

• Support the development and assembly of test fixtures, harness prototypes, and custom cable solutions.

• Track and report shortages in components, consumables, and assembly materials.

• Assist with calibration checks, equipment setup, and basic maintenance of lab tools and test stations.

• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to workflow, assembly quality, or test efficiency.

• Coordinate with the Lab Manager and engineering teams to support mission activities and experiment teams utilizing the facility.

• Provide feedback on procedures, drawings, and test instructions to improve clarity and manufacturability.

Experience and Skills

JOB SKILLS:

Required:

• Proficiency with electrical hand tools, soldering equipment, and basic test instruments.

• Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and assembly documentation.

• Strong attention to detail, quality focus, and ability to follow technical instructions.

• Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for basic documentation and reporting.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET clearance (or active clearance if required ).

Preferred:

• Prior experience in an electrical lab, electronics manufacturing, or test environment.

• Familiarity with IPC or ESD control standards.

• Experience supporting DoD contracts, mission work, or R&D environments.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Associate degree in Electronics, Electrical Technology, or related discipline; or equivalent military/industry experience.

• 2+ years of experience in electrical assembly, testing, or lab work (or relevant hands - on experience).

Travel

• Up to 10%

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position operates in a hands - on electrical lab environment involving regular bench work, soldering, testing, and use of precision tools and instruments. The pace is driven by the need to support ongoing missions and experiment providers as they move through the facility, requiring flexibility, responsiveness, and strong coordination with the Lab Manager and engineering teams. Work requires strict adherence to safety and ESD protocols, attention to detail, and the ability to perform consistent, high - quality technical tasks in a dynamic operational setting.
