Network Engineer

Overview

Abile Group has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Network Engineer supporting an Intelligence Community Customer in Lorton, VA. As a Network Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and maintaining the network infrastructure. Your expertise will contribute to the seamless operation of the customer systems, ensuring high availability, reliability, and security. You will work collaboratively with the IT team to support various projects and initiatives on both classified and unclassified networks.

Responsibilities

• 
  Leads and manages the deployment of network solutions across various geographic locations, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
  
• 
  Oversees the installation, configuration, and testing of network hardware and software, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
  
• 
  Coordinates with cross-functional teams (engineering, deployment, IA) to ensure smooth deployment and integration of network systems.
  
• 
  Ensures adherence to network design and security best practices, including implementation of redundancies, scalability, and fault-tolerant solutions.
  
• 
  Creates detailed project plans, manage timelines, track progress, and address any issues that arise during the deployment lifecycle.
  
• 
  Design, engineer, and implement local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), Data Center networks, and other network-related technologies.
  
• 
  Performs network configuration and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance and security.
  
• 
  Collaborates with cross-functional teams to integrate network solutions for new and existing systems.
  
• 
  Conducts thorough risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
  
• 
  Maintains thorough documentation of network deployment processes, configurations, and troubleshooting logs.
  
• 
  Performs site surveys to assess site readiness and determine deployment needs.
  
• 
  Provides technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and deployment staff.
  
• 
  Collaborates with network architects to ensure designs are aligned with deployment requirements.
  
• 
  Troubleshoots and resolve any network issues that arise during deployment and post-deployment phases.
  
• 
  Ensures compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  
• 
  Conducts regular maintenance and firmware upgrades on critical network infrastructure.
  
• 
  Creates required engineering documentation for network related projects.
  
• 
  Provides on-call support and response for critical system emergencies, as required.
  

This position is 100% onsite in Lorton, VA.

Qualifications

Clearance Required: Active TS/SCI 

Degree and Years of Experience: Bachelor's degree in technology related field with 8+ years of experience with Network Engineering in an enterprise environment (or equivalent experience).

Desired Certifications:

• 
  IAT Level II baseline certification as defined by DoD 8570.01 (Security +)
  
• 
  Cisco and/or Juniper certifications
  

Required Skills:

• 
  Design, deploy, and maintain Cisco ISE solutions for classified enterprise-scale environments.
  
• 
  Configure and optimize 802.1X authentication for wired  networks.
  
• 
  Integrate ISE with Active Directory, PKI, and other identity sources for centralized policy management.
  
• 
  Implement and manage MAC Authentication Bypass (MAB) for non-802.1X capable devices.
  
• 
  Develop and maintain network access policies, VLAN assignments, and posture assessments.
  
• 
  Troubleshoot authentication issues using tools like Wireshark, Splunk and ISE logs.
  
• 
  Collaborate with network, security, and endpoint teams to ensure smooth rollouts and minimal user disruption.
  
• 
  Document configurations, processes, and best practices for operational handover.
  
• 
  Solid experience with routing and switching technologies (e.g., Cisco, Juniper).
  
• 
  In-depth knowledge of L2/L3 network protocols/technologies (TCP/IP, iBGP, eBGP, OSPF, VLANs, 802.1q, LAG, etc.) and network security best practices.
  
• 
  Experience with network management tools and network monitoring systems.
  
• 
  Proven leadership skills and experience managing cross-functional teams or projects.
  
• 
  Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a proactive approach to addressing network deployment challenges.
  
• 
  Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels.
