Munitions Handler

Duties

• Receive, store, issue, ship, and inspect ammunition.
• Verify quantity of boxes, packages and other items against shipping documents to ensure accuracy.
• Complete and maintain shipping documents.
• Utilize storage charts and technical manuals to determine ammunition storage locations.
• Load ammunition by classes in accordance with loading and storage charts and other pertinent regulations.
• Ensure vehicles are not overloaded, and that adequate block and bracing is applied to prevent shifting.
• Observe and inspect ammunition in storage for corrosion from moisture and deterioration to take corrective actions.
• Operate 6,000-pound forklifts to move, load, unload, transfer, stack or un-stack palletized goods, equipment, materials and supplies from one location to another.
• Operate ½ to 2 ½ ton truck to transport materials from one location to another.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban (Lautenberg Amendment). This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
• This is a Drug Testing-Designated Position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R and must pass a pre-employment drug test and subsequent periodic drug screenings thereafter.
• This position has a requirement to lift up to 70 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examinations thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This is a "Mission Essential" position. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster), will be required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of up to 10% of the time.
• Incumbent is subject to a tour of duty to cover a 7-day work operation.
• This position requires incumbent to work occasional evenings and/or holidays hours, to include mandatory overtime, as mission dictates.
• Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain ammunition certification in accordance with Army Materiel Command (AMC) Regulation 350-4.
• Incumbent must successfully clear local screening check on Department of the Army Form 7281, Command Oriented Arms, Ammunition and Explosives Security Screening and Evaluation Record in accordance with Army Regulation 190-11.
• Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain installation forklift training certification and license.
• The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
• Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 13 Months. Term appointments may be extended beyond 6 years, up to 8 years, depending upon the needs of management. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond 8 years.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements. While probationary, the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Munitions Handler without more than normal supervision to include: (1) Verifying incoming shipments against shipping/packing documents to ensure accuracy; (2) locating and/or storing ammunition; and (3) completing and/or maintaining shipment and/or storage documents. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official.

PHYSICAL EFFORT

Standing, stooping, bending and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Required to lift and carry materials weighing up to 70 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed inside and outside in hot or cold temperatures. The work may be dusty, dirty and greasy. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, and the possibility of explosions and fire.
