Supervisory Police Officer (Traffic)

Duties

• Serve as Chief of the Traffic Investigation Section, Operations Branch, Police Division, responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of a 24 hours, rotating shifts, seven days a week traffic branch.
• Direct and supervise all aspects of traffic control, enforcement and analyses.
• Plan, manage and direct all aspects of motor vehicle traffic investigation for the installation.
• Conduct long-range and day-to-day planning of traffic missions and investigations, and subordinate activities ensuring consideration of all assigned areas of responsibility.
• Plan, schedule, and distribute work to subordinates as necessary to achieve effective and expeditious accomplishment of organizational goals and missions.
• Perform uniformed police officer duties when needed to assist in police operations and assure compliance with Federal, State, County and municipal laws and ordinances, and agency rules and regulations.
• Conduct liaison visits to local and state law enforcement agencies to discuss areas of mutual concern, level of service, and future plans
• Perform duties as Military Police Duty Officer (MPDO) on a rotating basis on assigned weekends, supervising a shift of law enforcement personnel.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• The incumbent is required to pass a pre-appointment and subsequent periodic medical/psychiatric evaluation.
• The incumbent is required to perform and pass semi-annual qualification testing with firearms (pistol, rifle, shotgun, etc), and observe applicable safety precautions.
• Incumbent must obtain and maintain certifications for CPR/first aid techniques; be qualified and certified in the use of chemical aerosol irritants, TASER, radar guns, breath alcohol analysis instruments, and other tasks.
• Must meet individual reliability and suitability standards prescribed by the Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program (AR 190-56 and AR 380-67).
• This position will require working rotating shifts, to include weekends and holidays, and may be required to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
• This position will require employee to wear uniforms.
• Must be able to pass an annual Physical Ability Test (PAT) and perform the essential functions of the position to standards published in AR 190-56.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state Motor Vehicle License and obtain and maintain local government driver's license.
• TDY may be occasionally required.
• Work may require flying on military aircraft. Academy Attendance or Police related missions (i.e. AWOL Apprehension, etc)
• Incumbent must be able to act in the capacity of a first responder to critical incidents.
• Incumbent of this position must be prepared to execute the lawful orders of critical incidents.
• Incumbent must carry assigned duty weapon.
• Incumbent must successfully complete a Police Officer Field Training Program within one year (12 months).
• The incumbent may be subject to recall in emergency situations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
• During non-duty hours/days, may be required to report as a member of an emergency response force during actual or simulated accident/incident.
• This position is designated as Mission Essential position during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designated/identified emergency conditions.
• Incumbent must be able to successfully graduate from a United States Army Military Police School accredited Civilian Police or Security Guard Course
• The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.

Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-08 grade level which includes: managing all aspects of motor vehicle traffic investigations; planning traffic missions and investigations; planning, scheduling, and/or distributing work to subordinates; performs traffic engineering functions by conducting traffic control studies.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08)
