Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer III to support the development of advanced tactical communications and data link systems used in mission-critical environments. This role focuses on the design, development, integration, testing, and troubleshooting of embedded software solutions supporting Link 16 and Tactical Data Link capabilities.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience developing real-time embedded systems in C/C++, working across the full software development lifecycle, and collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver high-performance communications solutions.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, integrate, and test embedded software applications for tactical communications systems
Develop software for real-time, multi-threaded embedded environments
Support architecture, implementation, debugging, and optimization of embedded software components
Analyze system requirements and develop software solutions to meet mission objectives
Collaborate closely with Systems Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Integration & Test, and other cross-functional teams
Perform software verification, unit testing, and troubleshooting activities
Participate in Agile software development activities including sprint planning, code reviews, and team collaboration
Support integration and testing of Link 16 waveform capabilities within embedded systems
Utilize tactical datalink radios, terminals, and lab equipment during development and testing efforts
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related STEM field with 5+ years of experience
Master's degree with 3+ years of experience
PhD with 1+ year of experience
Strong proficiency in C/C++
Experience with object-oriented software development
Experience working through the complete software development lifecycle from requirements through testing
Experience developing and debugging embedded real-time systems
Experience integrating firmware and software in complex embedded environments
Familiarity with static analysis tools and unit testing methodologies
Experience with Git, Bitbucket, Jira, and Agile development practices
Experience testing and troubleshooting Link 16 waveforms in embedded software environments
Hands-on experience with tactical datalink radios and communications hardware
Familiarity with Link 16 and TACAN waveform standards
Experience with Software Defined Radios (SDRs)
Active Secret Security Clearance
Ability to work onsite in a secure environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Avionics Operating Systems
Experience with Xilinx platforms including Zynq, UltraScale+, or Versal
Experience with Yocto and Petalinux
Experience with communication protocols including:
I2C
SPI
UART
PCIe
Ethernet
Knowledge of TCP/IP networking
Experience implementing cryptographic services using software libraries
Experience with Rust development
Familiarity with Linux kernel driver development
Familiarity with assembly language and bare-metal device drivers
Experience with PowerPC architectures
Experience with IBM engineering tools including DOORS, Rhapsody, and ClearCase
Familiarity with CORBA and Software Communications Architecture (SCA)
Familiarity with MIL-STD-6016
Active Top Secret clearance or SAP eligibility preferred
