Supervisory Airfield Operations Specialist

Duties

• Maintain status of the availability of airfield operations, equipment, and facilities in support of mission requirements necessitating close coordination with staff entities.
• Responsible for airfield infrastructure and development and assignment of aircraft parking for tenants and transient aircraft.
• Direct the work of the Airfield Operations Specialists assigned to the Base Operations section.
• Advise and provide counsel to personnel regarding policies, procedures, and management directives.
• Coordinate scheduling of the airfield environment with major unit commands to ensure safe and efficient utilization.
• Administer and monitor the maintenance program for assigned equipment.
• Maintain in-depth knowledge of airfield management, including technical capabilities of the aircraft, safety requirements, air traffic and airspace rules and procedures, and other related functions.

• Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being driven.
• This position requires occasional travel.
• Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as radio control hearing protection, eye protection, and gloves during instances such as fuel leakage or ice treatment.
• Must be able to clearly hear radio transmissions, wear headsets, and convey clear instructions in English, the world-wide standard for all pilots and ATC.
• Must be able to lift overhead at least 25Ibs, a pre-employment physical is required.
• Employee must be able to observe and distinguish indicator lights, light sequences, and light colors for signal systems.
• Must obtain and maintain forklift training and certification.
• This position requires irregular hours of work, and rotating shifts to include nights, weekends, and holidays with high periods of stress. Subject to changes in shift assignments following regulated notice periods.
• Mission Essential position. Required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations.
• This position is designated Tier 3, Non-Critical Sensitive, Moderate Risk and requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance Level as a condition of employment.
• Position may require a 1-year supervisory probationary period.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Applying aviation regulations and standards to ensure safe airfield operations; 2) Coordinating airfield activities and construction projects to maintain operational readiness; 3) Implementing safety programs, such as Foreign Object Debris (FOD) or wildlife hazard mitigation, for an airfield environment; 4) Assisting in the management of airfield facilities and services to support flight operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

• Term Appointment NTE 2 years - Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 2 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.
• Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for Term appointment will be appointed/converted into Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position
