Senior Cybersecurity Engineer

Location: Remote in either Remote or Washington, DC

Our client is seeking a hands-on Senior Cybersecurity Engineer to help strengthen and scale cybersecurity programs and operations for a leading government agency client. This role will involve direct collaboration with federal cybersecurity teams to implement advanced security controls, manage vulnerabilities, and ensure compliance with NIST, FISMA, and other federal standards.

Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and maintain secure network architectures and cybersecurity controls
• Conduct vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and risk analysis
• Manage security operations center (SOC) activities and incident response
• Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, and compliance documentation
• Lead security assessments and audits for federal systems
• Collaborate with development teams to implement secure coding practices
• Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior cybersecurity professionals
• Support federal cybersecurity initiatives and programs

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field (Master's preferred)
• 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity, with demonstrated expertise in federal government environments
• Experience with NIST SP 800-53, FISMA, and other federal cybersecurity frameworks
• Strong knowledge of network security, encryption, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems
• Experience with security tools such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, vulnerability scanners, and penetration testing tools
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with ability to work in a team environment
• Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph required

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with cloud security (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Knowledge of DevSecOps practices and tools
• Experience with zero-trust architecture and implementation
• Familiarity with federal cybersecurity programs and initiatives

Clearance Requirements: Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph required for this position.
