Equipment Specialist (Biomedical)

Duties

• Maintains, analyzes, troubleshoots, and repairs state-of-the-art biomedical equipment.
• Plans, develops, and implements an effective Quality Management Program (QMP) which involves the quality assurance in the acquisition, incoming inspection, acceptance, maintenance, and eventual retirement and disposal of biomedical/medical equipment.
• Implements and maintains the internal annual audit plan for the hospital.
• Schedules, coordinates, and/or performs audits with clinics and/or ISO registrar.
• Performs special studies to collect, analyze, interpret information and develop recommendations to resolve deficiencies.
• Conducts investigations, evaluates, interprets, and collects information to identify trends.
• Serves at meetings on various patient safety, risk management, and quality assurance committees
• Reviews and prepares written reports on the property book concerning listing accuracy and completeness of all data fields.

• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

• A pre-placement medical examination is required.
• Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• Standard Work Hours: The routine work schedule is typically regular day-shift hours; however, operational flexibility may occasionally be required to meet mission demands.
• Irregular Hours and Shifts: There is a possibility of irregular hours or shift changes (such as evenings, weekends, or holidays) when necessary to support specific mission requirements.
• This position is designated as Mission-Essential. The incumbent may be required to report to or remain at work during emergency situations, facility closures, or adverse weather conditions.

Specialized Experience for GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Experience identifying and repairing medical equipment, (2) Experience performing medical equipment preventative maintenance and calibration, and (3) Experience planning and assigning work based on priority, available resources, and staff capabilities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.ORCombination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
