NSC Staffing is seeking an experienced Mobile Heavy Equipment & Diesel Mechanic to support mission-critical maintenance operations in Virginia Beach, Virginia. This position is responsible for performing advanced diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on heavy trucks, construction equipment, diesel-powered assets, and tactical support vehicles in both shop and field environments.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience maintaining heavy equipment, diesel engines, and commercial vehicle systems while supporting government and military operations.

Position Overview
The Mobile Heavy Equipment & Diesel Mechanic performs corrective and preventative maintenance on a wide range of heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. This role requires strong diagnostic abilities, mechanical expertise, and the ability to independently troubleshoot and repair complex systems while ensuring equipment readiness and operational reliability.

The successful candidate will support maintenance operations in shop, field, and expeditionary environments while documenting all work performed and ensuring compliance with applicable maintenance standards.

Key Responsibilities
Heavy Equipment & Diesel Maintenance

• Perform all levels of preventative and corrective maintenance on:
  • Heavy trucks
  • Construction equipment
  • CESE (Civil Engineering Support Equipment)
  • Diesel-powered vehicles and assets
• Diagnose and repair:
  • Suspension systems
  • Steering systems
  • Brake systems
  • Drivetrain components
  • Powertrain systems
• Conduct inspections and maintenance to ensure mission readiness and operational reliability.

Mechanical Repair & Troubleshooting

• Independently troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine issues.
• Repair and replace defective components and systems.
• Perform tire mounting, balancing, rotations, and replacements.
• Execute welding, metal fabrication, and minor repair work as required.
• Identify and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.

Field & Expeditionary Support

• Support field maintenance operations and contingency maintenance activities.
• Travel to operational sites as required to perform equipment repairs and inspections.
• Assist with surge maintenance requirements during high-demand operational periods.
• Operate government vehicles while performing maintenance activities.

Maintenance Documentation & Compliance

• Accurately document labor, parts usage, inspections, and repairs within Fleet Focus or similar maintenance management systems.
• Maintain maintenance records in accordance with government and program requirements.
• Follow OEM maintenance procedures and applicable maintenance standards.
• Support audits, inspections, and readiness reporting requirements.

Safety & Quality Assurance

• Follow all safety policies, environmental requirements, and maintenance procedures.
• Ensure maintenance activities meet quality standards and operational requirements.
• Use proper PPE and safe work practices at all times.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas.

Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications

• U.S. Citizen.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
• Ability to obtain installation and government facility access credentials.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Minimum 6 years of experience as a heavy equipment, diesel, or fleet maintenance mechanic.
• Experience working within:
  • OEM dealerships
  • Commercial fleet maintenance facilities
  • Military maintenance organizations
  • Heavy equipment repair operations
• Ability to independently diagnose and repair heavy equipment and diesel systems.
• Experience using Fleet Focus or comparable maintenance management software.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred.
• ASE Diesel Engine Certification.
• ASE certifications in two or more heavy-duty truck specialties, such as:
  • Brakes
  • Suspension & Steering
  • Drivetrain
  • Electrical/Electronic Systems
  • HVAC
  • Preventative Maintenance
• Experience supporting military vehicle fleets or government maintenance programs.

Work Environment

• Shop, maintenance facility, motor pool, and field environments.
• Exposure to:
  • Diesel fuels
  • Lubricants
  • Hydraulic fluids
  • Exhaust systems
  • Heavy machinery
  • Outdoor weather conditions
• Travel up to 10% as required to support operational needs.
• Frequent interaction with maintenance teams, supervisors, and government personnel.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, and climb throughout the workday.
• Ability to work beneath, around, and atop heavy equipment and vehicles.
• Ability to use hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop machinery.
• Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments under varying conditions.
• Must be capable of safely wearing required PPE.
