Job Title: Senior AVEVA PI Systems Engineer
Location: New York, NY - Hybrid
Pay Range: $55-60+ hr D.O.E.
Schedule: HYBRID / Onsite Tuesday through Thursday; remote Monday and Friday
Position Overview
Our Fortune 500 client located in New York, NY is seeking an experienced Senior AVEVA PI Systems Engineer to architect, administer, integrate, support, and enhance a large-scale enterprise AVEVA/OSIsoft PI System supporting mission-critical Electric, Gas, and Steam Control Center operations.
This is a senior, hands-on role supporting a PI Data Historian environment containing 1.5+ million PI tags. The engineer will be responsible for PI Data Archive, PI Asset Framework (AF), PI Vision, PI Analytics, PI Notifications, Event Frames, PI interfaces, high availability, disaster recovery, integrations, dashboards, and custom development.
The ideal candidate brings deep AVEVA PI expertise combined with strong infrastructure, integration, development, and troubleshooting capabilities. This individual must be comfortable supporting highly available 24x7 operational technology environments where system reliability, recoverability, cybersecurity, and rapid incident response are critical.

AVEVA PI System Administration & Architecture
The ideal candidate is more than a PI application administrator. We are seeking a senior AVEVA PI specialist who can operate across architecture, administration, development, integration, high availability, disaster recovery, analytics, and production support.
You should be equally comfortable troubleshooting PI Data Archive availability, designing PI AF structures and analytics, configuring PI interfaces, developing PI Vision dashboards, integrating operational data with enterprise systems, automating administration with PowerShell, and supporting custom solutions through PI System Access technologies.
Success in this position requires a strong sense of technical ownership. The environment supports critical Control Center operations, so the right candidate understands the importance of 24x7 availability, cybersecurity, disaster recovery, detailed documentation, disciplined change management, and rapid resolution of production issues.

Key Responsibilities
AVEVA PI System Administration & Architecture
- Administer, maintain, enhance, and optimize a large-scale enterprise AVEVA PI environment with 1.5+ million PI tags.
- Architect and support PI Data Archive, PI Asset Framework, and PI Vision environments.
- Implement and maintain high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions for PI Data Archive, PI AF, and PI Vision.
- Develop and maintain PI AF Element Templates, AF Elements, Asset Analytics, Notifications, and Event Frames.
- Develop and support PI-based visualization and dashboard solutions using PI Vision and related technologies.
- Monitor PI infrastructure health, availability, capacity, and performance to ensure continuous availability of critical operational systems.
- Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for complex PI application and infrastructure issues.
- Configure, administer, troubleshoot, and enhance PI interfaces and integrations, including OPC DA/UA, PI-to-PI, RDBMS, DNP3, and PI API-based integrations.
- Support PI Integrator for Business Analytics and the delivery of PI data to enterprise analytics platforms.
- Integrate AVEVA PI with enterprise business, analytics, operational, SCADA, and Control Center systems.
- Design reliable data flows between operational systems and enterprise applications while maintaining appropriate security and availability.
- Develop and support API and adapter-based integrations as required.
- Design and develop custom PI solutions using PI SDK, AF SDK, PI OLEDB, PowerShell, APIs, and related PI System Access technologies.
- Develop applications and integrations using C#, .NET, Visual Studio, SQL, SSIS, and PowerShell.
- Develop PI dashboards, business-intelligence reports, and specialized applications supporting operational and business requirements.
- Develop and support Microsoft Power BI reporting and analytics solutions utilizing operational data.
- Automate recurring administration, monitoring, integration, and support activities using PowerShell and related technologies.
- Design, code, test, deploy, and support enhancements to Control Center applications.
- Ensure continuous availability of PI Historian infrastructure supporting Electric, Gas, and Steam Control Center operations.
- Implement system enhancements, monitor server and application health, and proactively address availability and performance issues.
- Develop, maintain, test, and periodically update disaster-recovery procedures and documentation for PI and associated operational systems.
- Support integrations and dependencies involving systems such as SCADA and outage-management platforms.
- Participate in scheduled 24x7x365 support coverage, responding to alerts and production incidents to restore critical application availability.
- Apply a strong operational mindset to physical safety, cybersecurity, system resilience, and production reliability.
- Independently manage technical aspects of assigned projects, including planning, implementation, testing, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
- Work effectively with Control Center personnel, infrastructure teams, cybersecurity, application teams, business stakeholders, project sponsors, and technical leadership.
- Communicate project status, technical issues, risks, resource conflicts, key activities, and changes to stakeholders.
- Develop detailed end-to-end architecture, configuration, operational, troubleshooting, and disaster-recovery documentation.
- Develop and deliver technical presentations to engineering, operational, and business audiences.
- Follow established IT service-management processes and support incident, problem, and change-management activities.
- Deep hands-on experience administering and supporting AVEVA/OSIsoft PI System environments.
- Experience supporting large-scale enterprise PI Historian implementations.
- Advanced experience with PI Data Archive, PI Asset Framework (AF), PI Vision, PI Asset Analytics, PI Notifications, and Event Frames.
- Experience implementing and supporting high availability and disaster recovery for PI Data Archive, PI AF, and PI Vision.
- Strong experience configuring and troubleshooting PI interfaces, including PI DNP3, PI-to-PI, OPC DA/UA, RDBMS, and related PI interfaces.
- Experience with PI Integrator for Business Analytics.
- Strong PowerShell scripting and automation capabilities.
- Experience developing PI solutions using PI System Access technologies such as PI SDK, AF SDK, PI OLEDB, APIs, and adapters.
- Programming and development experience with technologies such as C#, .NET, Visual Studio, SQL, SSIS, APIs, and PowerShell.
- Strong troubleshooting and root-cause-analysis capabilities within highly available production environments.

- Ability to independently lead technical assignments with minimal supervision.

- AVEVA/OSIsoft PI System Infrastructure and/or Developer Accreditation.
- Advanced Microsoft Power BI experience.
- Azure DevOps experience.
- Microsoft Power Automate experience.
- ServiceNow and ITIL process experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Visio and technical architecture documentation.
- Experience with modern Microsoft .NET technologies.
- Project-management experience supporting enterprise technology initiatives.
- Previous experience supporting utility, energy, SCADA, Operational Technology, industrial-control, or other mission-critical environments.
