POSITION OVERVIEW
STi is seeking an experienced Aircraft Mechanic III (Composite Technician) to support Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 16 (MAG-16) at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar, California. This position supports MV-22 aircraft maintenance operations under Marine Air Group 16 (MAG-16) and is responsible for leading a team in the performance of aircraft maintenance, inspections, repairs, and scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with aircraft structural maintenance, composite or related aircraft component repair, sheet metal and structural modifications, and the interpretation of technical data. This position requires the ability to support complex maintenance operations, prioritize workload to meet aircraft delivery schedules, and provide technical expertise to mechanics, engineers, and customers.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include:
• Lead a team in the performance of aircraft maintenance, inspections, and scheduled and unscheduled maintenance in support of MV-22 aircraft.
• Provide technical guidance, supervision, and oversight to subordinate Aircraft Mechanics I, II, and III throughout aircraft maintenance and modification efforts.
• Perform, supervise, and inspect aircraft maintenance duties involving structural components, mechanical systems, and related aircraft assemblies.
• Maintain, repair, and modify aircraft structures and structural components, including repairs involving complex to extreme difficulty.
• Apply technical knowledge of aircraft airframe and power plant systems to identify equipment malfunctions and determine appropriate repair or corrective action.
• Perform aircraft structural maintenance, including sheet metal repair, structural modification, and related aircraft component maintenance.
• Interpret technical data, blueprints, and manufacturer's manuals to support aircraft maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and modification activities.
• Troubleshoot and repair aircraft mechanical components and systems, including flight controls, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and other applicable mechanical components.
• Apply knowledge of aircraft maintenance tools and test equipment, including torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes, and shears.
• Support aircraft inspections, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, and corrective actions in accordance with applicable maintenance manuals and governing directives.
• Identify and report Intermediate-Level (I-Level) and Depot-Level (D-Level) repair requirements discovered during inspections and corrective maintenance.
• Support corrosion prevention and control activities, including aircraft structural surface preparation, treatment, and related maintenance requirements as assigned.
• Assist with the inspection and maintenance of aircraft structures and components to ensure applicable inspection standards and technical requirements are met.
• Coordinate with structural and mechanical engineers, Government representatives, and customers to provide technical support and resolve complex maintenance issues.
• Maintain accurate aircraft maintenance documentation, including required entries in aircraft logs and records.
• Organize and prioritize assigned maintenance workload to support established aircraft delivery schedules and operational requirements.
• Support the identification and correction of foreign object debris (FOD) and other conditions that could affect aircraft safety or aircrew operations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Prior experience supporting U.S. Marine Corps aviation maintenance operations.
• Experience supporting MV-22 aircraft or comparable military aviation platforms.
• Experience with aircraft composite materials, composite component repair, or related structural maintenance.
• Experience with aircraft corrosion control, surface preparation, and structural preservation.
• Experience supporting organizational and intermediate-level aircraft maintenance operations.
• Experience with aircraft inspections, maintenance documentation, and technical directive compliance.
• Prior experience leading or providing technical oversight to aircraft maintenance personnel.
• Experience working within a military aviation maintenance environment and supporting aircraft readiness requirements.
