Supervisory Security Guard

Duties

• Plan and supervise security guard shift activities to maintain physical security and enforce laws.
• Observes and detects violations of laws, policies, and procedures during guard force shifts to maintain installation security.
• Reports incidents of theft, accidents, or unauthorized activities by completing detailed reports and forms.
• Ensure proper accountability of all sensitive items, weapons and equipment.
• Conducts post checks of personnel and areas of responsibility to verify compliance with security policies.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain eligibility for a Secret security clearance.
• IAW AR 190-56, employees and applicants must maintain high conduct and meet Individual Reliability Program standards, including social adjustment, emotional stability, sound judgment, dependability, flexibility, and performance under pressure.
• Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
• IAW AR 600-85, a DA Form 5019 Condition of Employment must be assigned for mandatory drug testing. Drug testing designated position. Individuals agree to submit to a urinalysis on a random/recurring basis, in accordance with (IAW) AR 600-85.
• Shift work may be required, with varying hours including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Overtime may be directed as needed, and employees are subject to recall during emergencies.
• Incumbent must be proficient with assigned firearms, pass initial qualification, and re-qualify semi-annually. All weapons training and qualifications will be conducted in accordance with AR 190-56.
• Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability. Standard for medical exams are prescribed in AR 190-56 "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program".
• Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
• Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
• Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
• Incumbent must maintain physical fitness and pass an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT). Failure to meet PAT standards per AR 190-56, including after a second attempt within 90 days, will result in separation.
• Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
• Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
• Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
• Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
• Employee must support the installation's security response, including carrying and deploying a riot baton, protective shield, and using non-lethal munitions when required.
• TDY travel is occasionally required.
• LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11.
• This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Leading personnel who perform security procedures with a federal, state, municipal, local, or private protective organization; 2) Making work assignments to ensure that guard coverage is provided to patrol areas; and 3) Utilizing security monitoring systems and /or access control system to authorize entry. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
