Aircraft Survival and Flight Equipment Repairman

Duties

• Carry out the accountability, fitting, modification, inspection, issue, repair, maintenance, and records for Aviation Life Support Equipment.
• Manage the inventory, ordering, and accountability of materials including maintaining a financial budget and stocking flight gear, medical supplies, and controlled items like signaling devices.
• Complete and update maintenance records and reports.
• Load and maintains survival radios with encrypted keys required for survival and flight operations.
• Brief aircrew and non-aircrew on the proper operation, use, and maintenance of ALSE.
• Assist in on-the-job training for employees and conducts annual training on survival equipment
• Receiving, reviewing, and disseminating technical and administrative publications to update standard operating procedures (SOPs), checklists, and briefing materials.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
• This position must must obtain Aviation Life Support Equipment (ALSE) certification within one (1) year from the date of placement into this position.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Aircraft Survival and Flight Equipment Repairman without more than normal supervision. ability to perform common tasks including: inspect, fit, issue, maintain, and document equipment; use standard tools and test equipment; and refer complex or troubleshooting issues to higher-level employee or supervisor.

• Physical Efforts: Performs work assignments that may be accomplished while seated at a workbench or while standing. Lift and carry items weighing between 10 and 40 pounds and occasionally those items in excess of 40 pounds.
• Working Conditions: Works primarily inside an environmentally controlled room. Occasionally required to work in a flight line environment. Subject to hazardous noise, minor cuts, and braises from sharp edges and tools.
