We are seeking an experienced Platform Engineer to support the Air Force to help in developing and operating modernized applications that are used daily by the warfighter. This is an exciting new initiative where the Air Force is mirroring Silicon Valley processes and capabilities to quickly deploy new capabilities. Candidates must be passionate, energized, and excited to work on modern architectures and solve challenging problems for our clients.

Position Description (what you will do)

• Support the AWS GovCloud infrastructure (networking, IAM/account structure, storage) underpinning the Data Operations platform, helping it scale securely as new data sources and workloads are onboarded.
• Support provisioning and operations of the platform's core managed data infrastructure - Amazon MSK (Kafka), AWS EMR (Spark), Aurora, S3, Glue, or comparable services - assisting with sizing, scaling, and tuning.
• Support Kubernetes platform operations (cluster node groups/autoscaling, upgrades, cluster networking) that the Data Engineering and DevSecOps teams build and deploy on top of.
• Build and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) modules for the platform, following established patterns and conventions.
• Participate in platform reliability practices - monitoring, alerting, on-call rotation, and assisting with capacity planning and disaster recovery/backup procedures.
• Support cost visibility efforts across the platform's AWS footprint, flagging optimization opportunities.
• Help maintain self-service tooling and documentation that Data Engineers and DevSecOps Engineers use to provision and operate against the platform.
• Pick up well-articulated infrastructure tasking largely on their own, translating requirements into working infrastructure, with oversight and guidance available from senior engineers and leadership as needed.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of professional infrastructure/platform engineering experience, including hands-on cloud infrastructure work.
• General familiarity with AWS infrastructure (networking, IAM) and managed data services such as Kafka (e.g., Amazon MSK), Spark (e.g., AWS EMR), Aurora, and S3, or comparable/equivalent tools.
• Experience with Kubernetes cluster operations (e.g., EKS), or comparable container orchestration platforms.
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform), or comparable tools.
• Familiarity with platform reliability practices - monitoring/alerting and supporting on-call incident response.
• Proficiency with scripting/automation (Python, Bash).
• Ability to pick up well-defined tasking largely on their own, with oversight and guidance available, and to communicate effectively with technical stakeholders.

Nice to Have:

• Experience supporting DoD or Intelligence Community programs, particularly Platform One or other DoD software factory environments.
• Experience with AWS GovCloud specifically.
• Familiarity with cost-optimization practices in a multi-service AWS environment.
• Experience with self-service/golden-path platform tooling.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect Associate, CKA).
• Familiarity with Kubernetes deployment/orchestration automation tools such as Harpoon or comparable tools - this team is expected to use Harpoon's toolset for cluster provisioning and container deployment.
