Job Description



The Senior Model Based Systems Engineer is responsible for contributing to the design, development, and implementation of complex systems. They will play a supporting role in achieving the organizations goals by support the NSWCDD Intelligent Automation Division (H60) for the US Navy, DoW, and Interagency partners with warfare technologies that represent the intersection of autonomy, artificial intelligence, robotics, and unmanned systems. This position will directly impact expansion of the US Navy into the field of Artificial Intelligence and through Large Language Model problem (LLM) solving and machine learning integration.

CORE FUNCTIONS / JOB DUTIES


Has strong Independence to act on:


Lead the development and implementation of complex systems using advanced modeling techniques.


Create and manage sophisticated system models using SysML and MBSE tools to represent requirements, architecture, behavior, and verification processes.


Lead technical planning, system integration, verification and validation activities, and evaluate alternatives including cost and risk assessments.


Analyze and decompose complex system requirements into functional and performance specifications within a model-based framework.


Develop architectural views using frameworks such as DoDAF/MODAF (UPDM) and ensure compatibility of all functional interfaces.


Work closely with cross-functional teams, including customers and subject matter experts, to drive technical issues to closure and ensure alignment with project goals.


Apply and promote MBSE methodologies to streamline development processes, reduce costs, and improve system reliability.


Provide guidance and training to junior engineers on MBSE practices and tools.

SKILLS & ABILITIES


Applies expert level knowledge in:


Systems engineering principles with MBSE tools


SysML methodology for system modeling


Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF)/MODAF and their application in systems modeling


Digital twin technology for system optimization


Military tactical products and Command & Control systems


Risk management tools and processes for complex systems


Simulation and test frameworks using model-based tools.


Developing executable architectures and system simulations

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS


Bachelors Degree in STEM related field


INCOSE CSEP (Certified) Certification Preferred

PAY RANGE


$145,000.00 to $175,000.00 annually, DOE

U.S. Citizenship is Required

SECURITY CLEARANCE


Candidates must have an active clearance OR the ability to obtain a US Government security clearance and will be subject to a US security background investigation (i.e. favorable background investigation / credit score). Additional eligibility requirements for access to various levels of classified information may also be required. An active security clearance is highly desirable.
