Hybrid 3 day/week on site in Washington, DC
Our client is seeking an Application Tester to support and develop Java-based applications along with .NET and MQ messaging for a federal program in Washington, DC. The role involves planning and executing functional, regression, load, and system testing across web-based systems, creating and maintaining automated and manual test scripts, validating data using SQL, and documenting results and defects. The tester will collaborate with cross-functional teams within AFMS to facilitate SDLC processes and support change management, while adhering to federal background investigation requirements.
Due to federal security clearance requirements, applicant must be a United States Citizen or Permanent Resident with an active Public Trust clearance. This is a contract to hire opportunity. Applicants must be willing and able to work on a w2 basis and convert to FTE following contract duration. Responsibilities:
- Plan and develop functional test plans for all phases of testing.
- Design, execute, and maintain automated and manual test scripts.
- Generate test data and perform data validation.
- Execute regression, functional, load, and system testing.
- Verify results and produce test summaries and defect reports.
- Identify defects and requirement discrepancies.
- Create defect change requests and report discrepancies.
- Determine test objectives and standards by reviewing requirements.
- Conduct application testing of web-based systems.
- Capture and document test artifacts and record defects.
- Access and query databases using MS Access or SQL to validate results.
- Report test outcomes by collecting, analyzing, interpreting, summarizing, and displaying data.
- Resolve testing problems by adjusting methods and updating plans.
- Understand business requirements and current system functionality.
- Participate in design reviews, analysis walkthroughs, and peer reviews.
- Use Rational ClearQuest and Rational ClearCase for change and defect management.
Experience Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in software testing, including manual and automated testing of web-based applications.
- Evidence of using test strategies, test plans, manual test cases, and automated test scripts.
- Ability to conduct test risk and system impact analysis.
- Detailed orientation with problem solving and decision making skills.
- Ability to identify, document, and track defects thoroughly.
- Ability to collaborate and triage technical issues across teams.
- Flexibility to work weekends and off hours as required.
- Proficiency developing automated scripts and organizing suites with Rational tools such as Rational Test Manager and Rational Functional Tester.
- Capability to develop SQL for backend database testing and analysis.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Hands-on experience with tools such as TestComplete, Insomnia, SoapUI, ReadyAPI, TOAD, and Data Studio preferred.
- US Citizenship required. Must pass a DOJ Minimal Background Investigation (MBI) Level 5. Valid EQIP JPAS transfers acceptable.
